Audi obtained rights to all Q1-Q9 products. That means an expansion. We already know that the biggest models are in development (Q8 and Q9), as well as the subcompact crossover (Q1). But, this is the first time we hear about the 2021 Audi Q6. Its alphanumeric name suggests the crossover SUV is going to take position between existing Q5 and Q7. However, there is a lack of official information about the upcoming vehicle, so all we can do is to speculate about the novelties in the German carmaker’s lineup.

The subcompact Q3 was released in 2019 and its smaller sibling for European market Q2 arrived a year earlier. The flagship model Q5 entered the new generation the same year, and the Q8 was recently presented. The oldest vehicle in the lineup is Q7, but it was updated last year. So, the path is actually clean for new arrivals. The 2021 Audi Q6 is one of the options, alongside Q9 and Q1. The only model we can’t find any rumor about is Q4.

Styling, Size

The 2021 Audi Q6 is something new and we are going to update this report with new info whenever we run into new details. The SUV should be something between Q5 and Q7. The compact model is 184-inch long and the mid-size SUV is expanded for 15 inches. There is enough room between these two and the Q6 could be around 190 inches long. The question is what kind of wheelbase the upcoming vehicle is going to take. One thing is certain – the MLB Evo architecture is going to be the platform. It guarantees versatility and durability.

But, there are a few other architectures that could be served as the base for the upcoming Q6. Recently, Audi launched the PPE – Premium Platform Electric. But, if the SUV goes after an electric drivetrain, then the MEB is more likely to happen. It replaced the conventional MQB on Volkswagen units. We can already see the premieres of first products derived from the ID Crozz concept. The ID3 is already available, and the ID4 comes next year.

What Will 2021 Audi Q6 Look Like?

We already have estimations about the size of the 2021 Audi Q6. But, what about the design? The SUV might take the styling of the latest editions and concepts. For example, the Q6 could be a larger version of Q3. On the other hand, there are a few other interesting theories. If the E-Tron technology takes place and the SUV becomes an EV, then designers will have enough room for experimenting. Audi still needs a true coupe crossover, although the look of their existing models is very aggressive. On the other hand, the company is owned by VW Group, which also delivers coupe models under the Porsche nameplate.

Again, the styling will depend on the type of drivetrain. If the Q6 goes the conventional way, then some of the well-known features are going to be available, such as honeycomb grille. On the other hand, the EV will bring unique upgrades and options, especially inside the cockpit. The information panel will be wholly digital. Advanced features could include an autonomous drive of the latest generation. Currently, that is Level 2, but in the near future, Level 4 will become a reality pretty soon. Some companies and one of them is BMW, are already in advanced stages of development. Audi won’t let its archrival get this technology much sooner than it does.

Still, if the SUV grows too much, then 3.0 will be needed to power the rig. This one increases the output to 340 ponies and 330 lb-ft of torque.
