The fourth generation of the Escape crossover debuted this season. However, the first changes in the new vehicle are about to arrive pretty soon. The 2021 Ford Escape is about to become a seven-seater! It is a surprising move for those who don’t follow updates about this model. But, rumors about this upgrade appeared more than a year ago. The Blue Oval company didn’t bring the 7-seat version right at the premiere, but we haven’t waited for too long.

The 2021 Ford Escape might also be interesting because of its similarity with the Bronco. The legendary SUV is about to bring a smaller version, Bronco Sport crossover. It was recently spied, but all about the premiere is still a speculation. We can also read rumors about Baby Bronco’s off-road vehicle, Bronco truck, and Bronco Raptor. Now, the Sport edition is another topic for fans of the legendary vehicle discontinued 25 years ago.

Why Buy 2021 Ford Escape

Still, the Escape is going to be interesting even without the help of the more popular nameplate. The new model brought a lot of fresh things, including an updated design. Lighter materials took away 200 pounds from the 2021 Ford Escape. So, it is more efficient than before. Plus, you can get a hybrid version that will offer 44 mpg in the city drive, which beats Toyota Rav4 and Honda CR-V hybrids.

Ford also made CoPilot360 safety standards on the crossover. The sliding second row is one of the reasons why we believe there is room for two more seats. New suspension improves drive mechanics.

On the other hand, Escape is not offering ST or RS versions. But, this could be fixed on the upcoming crossover. Plus, the exterior could be more appealing. But, the next update will happen in a few years. The base price is slightly higher, but we cannot call 2021 Ford Escape expensive.

Specs

The new Escape offers two different petrol drivetrains. The base model comes equipped with a 1.5-liter inline-four capable of delivering 180 hp and 190 lb-ft of torque. Another cool feature is a cylinder-deactivation system. It will shut down one cylinder to save fuel. Improved mileage reaches 30 mpg combined. All-wheel drive is optional and it consumes slightly more gas.

Another option is a larger 2.0 engine with 250 hp and 280 lb-ft of twist. Fuel economy is suffering and drops to 23 mpg in the city. However, if you take a lot of highway drive, it won’t cost you as much as a 1.5-liter unit – 31 mpg.

2021 Ford Escape Hybrid and PHEV

The base for the 2021 Ford Escape Hybrid will be a 2.5-liter engine. Combined with a battery, it can produce 200 hp and 155 lb-ft of torque. However, the main upgrade comes with generous gas mileage. Escape can now achieve 44 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the open road. Also, the crossover offers a hybrid engine in combination with an all-wheel drive.

The same unit will serve as the main source of power for the plug-in hybrid. The new system boosts the power outputs to 221 horsepower. Fuel economy numbers are not available yet, but the best thing about it will be the electric range. Expect the Escape to make 30 miles on a single charge.

Trims and Equipment

The least expensive model is S. It comes with smaller displacement and selectable drive modes. Tech equipment includes a 4.5-inch display on the command center. If you pick the SE trim, Sync3 infotainment becomes available with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus the 8-inch touchscreen. Front seats are heated.

The SE Sport is the hybrid model, while the SEL is a heavily-equipped version with some of the most advanced features. Hands-free powergate and memory seats are there. But, it can’t match the Titanium package. heavily-loaded CoPilot360 is taking safety to the highest level. Audio is provided by Bang&Olufsen. Outside, you will spot 19-inch wheels and signature headlights.

2021 Ford Escape vs Competition

Toyota and Honda set a challenge with its hybrid units. Now, the 2021 Ford Escape is a king of the segment with 44 miles per gallon. Still, the compact crossover segment is the most popular in the US. Japanese carmakers are still ahead of Ford in sales. However, the redesign and the new engine should launch the Escape to stardom. The most popular vehicles are definitely the best in class, although buyers are also interested in Nissan Rogue, Chevy Equinox, or Hyundai Tucson.
