The first detail about the lineup refresh for 2021 season in Infiniti lineup is teased. The company launched an image of their latest project – coupe SUV. We already found its name – QX55. The number suggest the vehicle is positioned between QX50 and QX60. We believe the coupe crossover is going to be based on the smaller model and be its sportier sibling. The 2021 Infiniti QX55 will probably be the biggest addition for the new season.

Both Infiniti and Nissan are preparing big updates for the upcoming season. Besides the integration of the new Monograph concept on big SUVs, we will also see an electric crossover. Ariya platform debuted in Tokyo and it will be ready for production pretty soon. Immediately we could hear rumors about the new Rogue becoming an EV. Since the QX55 will probably have the same size, this platform could electrify the new coupe.

Besides a couple of teaser images, everything else about the 2021 Infiniti QX55 is speculation. Here is what we can found about the new crossover.

2021 Infiniti QX55

One Thing is Certain – It is a Coupe

The shape in the dark is not unveiling too much. If it didn’t come from Infiniti, we wouldn’t know what carmaker is making this prototype. But, the new look is a coupe and it is not yet part of the lineup. There are no too many such models on the market since the two-door layout and sloped roofline are harming the practicality of the vehicle. Less headroom at the back and more complicating access are downsides. On the other hand, the look is more aggressive and it boosts aerodynamics, which also leads to better performance.

2021 Infiniti QX55 Specs

Speculations about the drivetrain started immediately after the company launched teaser images. Since the 2021 Infiniti QX55 is going to be based on one of the existing models, the coupe crossover will borrow the drivetrain from QX50 or QX60.

The smaller model is using a turbocharged engine. It seems to be a more logical choice. A turbo-four unit is capable of producing 270 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. We will see if engineers will push it a bit further. A CVT and FWD would definitely be the combination for this setup. All-wheel drive is optional, and the coupe would have towing capacity of 3,000 with a 2.0 engine.

If the QX55 takes the engine from QX60, then a V6 steps up. Power outcome reaches nearly 300 horsepower and torque is 270 lb-ft of torque. This is a more powerful option, but it also consumes more fuel. Experts believe that the four-cylinder unit suits the coupe crossover better, mostly because of its size and weight.

Could it be Electric?

The new season is going to bring a lot of changes. It seems that Nissan is persistent in intention to build more electric vehicles. With the new coupe crossover, we were wondering if the company can combine these two. Without further details about the teaser image, we can hear a lot of rumors regarding the all-electric battery for this unit.

We can assume the EV is going to be based on the new Ariya concept. The company presented the platform in Tokyo. We still don’t have a schedule of production, but the first units could roll out from plants in 2021. The range will be at least 250 miles, which is 100 miles more than the Nissan Leaf, the company’s only all-electric model. It is still the best-selling vehicle in the segment, but Nissan disappointed us by not delivering more vehicles after that one.

2021 Infiniti QX55 Inspiration Found in FX SUV

Younger buyers won’t remember the crossover SUV that launched the Infiniti to stardom. The FX model was one of the first that used a sloped roofline to boost aerodynamics. Still, this was not the standard coupe, since the C-pillar was there and passengers on the rear bench had enough headroom.

According to two images and some insider info, the new 2021 Infiniti QX55 will have similarities with the FX. Well, the carmaker will make a throwback to draw more attention from older fans.

When Will 2021 Infiniti QX55 be Launched?

The release date of the 2021 Infiniti QX55 is not set yet. But, releasing the teasers definitely means something. Lately, the company added a couple of interesting concepts, but the coupe crossovers seems to be closer to the production. But, the carmaker is not going to give us any details until the official premiere.

All these speculations are not unveiling other info. We believe the 2021 Infiniti QX55 will cost closer to QX60. The mid-size model starts at $46,000. Competition? Porsche Cayenne, BMW X4, and Mercedes GLC Coupe. If the vehicle goes all-electric, then Jaguar E-Pace and upcoming Tesla Model Y are the biggest rivals.
