The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Sport is the new model for the lineup. The Japanese carmaker updated the small crossover and added another trim level with unique features. The rest of the lineup remains the same. Buyers will have options between the Base, Premium, and Limited. The Hybrid model is not confirmed for the 2021 season. The Sport model comes with a 2.5-liter drivetrain, instead of a 2.0 displacement. Well, this might be Subaru’s redemption for not delivering the turbo model.
The carmaker used the time during a pandemic to introduce the new model and draw the interest of buyers. Nevertheless, the current situation is bad and we are expecting the automotive industry to recover in the next 12 months, or even more. Subaru started at the right time. Nevertheless, it might be too early if the pandemic lasts.
The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Sport will be positioned between Limited and Premium trims. We’ll see if the package is going to be available for the hybrid unit, or only a 2.5-liter. Anyhow, the crossover will have a unique drivetrain thanks to the special Boxer lineup.
2021 Subaru Crosstrek Sport – What Does it Brings?
The biggest change the new package is delivering is the engine. A 2.5-liter engine becomes the unit for higher trim levels, 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Sport and Limited. It will cost buyers $1,600 over the Premium model, which shares most things with the Sport version. On the other hand, Limited crossover upgrades the equipment, but uses the same configuration under the hood.
The Sport package comes with the Starlink infotainment. However, EyeSight technology is optional. Safety comes first and the system should monitor the situation around your vehicle and reduce the accidents by more than 85 percent. The Premium trim also carries over 17-inch wheels to the Sport model. Crosstrek also uses 18-inchers for Limited and Hybrid editions. Halogen lamps and LED lights are standard, as well as roof spoilers.

It is even better when Subaru delivers turbo unit. However, slow sales are limiting these setups.
A 2.5-liter flat-four can deliver 182 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual transmission not available for this setup. A CVT automatic is optional. It is a famous Lineatronic gearbox. A start-stop system is available and becomes standard with the Limited package. We don’t expect from the 2.5-liter engine to enhance the towing capacity. 1,500 pounds is enough for the small crossover.
Other Configurations, Limited Model Enhancements
The base drivetrain for the rest of the lineup is a 2.0-liter boxer unit. If you select the entry-level trim or Premium, you can count on 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of twist. This engine also uses a six-speed manual transmission. Plus, the hybrid configuration is there with an enhanced fuel economy. Still, the power output is not so great – 148 hp total is coming from a combination of petrol units and electric batteries.
The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Limited will be packed with the same engine as the Sport model, but the equipment is on the higher level. The EyeSight is standard, as well as the leather upholstery. The X-Mode drive is also there, plus hill descent control, brake assist, and 18-inch wheels. The most advanced technology comes with LED steering responsive headlights. There are also optional features for top of the class version, including the power moonroof.
Pricing
The base Crosstrek will come with an increased price compared to the previous edition. The crossover gains about $1,000 in value for the MSRP of $23,300. A trim that Sport model shares equipment with it, Premium, will cost $24,350. So, there is a 30-hp upgrade with a 2.5-liter engine and it will cost you $3,200. The Limited edition is going to bring more features for a $1,500 price bump. Previously, the most expensive trim was the Crosstrek Hybrid. The company didn’t confirm it for the 2021 season, and for the 2020 YM, there is a “Limited Availability” tag on the website.
