The 2022 Audi Q3 will be updated for the first time since the arrival of the second generation in 2018. The German carmaker is preparing a serious dose of changes for the subcompact crossover. Thanks to its size, the Q3 became one of the favorite vehicles for urban streets. Agility and a nice amount of power are making it wanted. On the other hand, the gas mileage is acceptable and the premium offer includes many advanced options. Unfortunately, there is no hybrid configuration, but the E-Tron all-electric crossover might join the lineup soon. It might happen already in 2022.
Another good reason why to buy the 2022 Audi Q3 will be its value. The predecessor was priced at the same level as most rivals, but the base package offered more features. Buyers praised technology and safety systems, which are a step ahead of the competition. There is no reason why Audi is not continuing to dominate in these segments. All-wheel drive is standard, for example. The interior is pretty spacious and comfortable for the subcompact SUV. Well, there are some lacks the upcoming Q3 needs to fix. For example, the transmission is not working smoothly every time. Also, you won’t see a performance model in the lineup, although the S package is there. A hybrid would also be a cool addition.
2022 Audi Q3 Engines (USA vs Other Versions)
The only available petrol powertrain for the US model is still a 2.0-liter turbo-four. Audi makes the Quattro AWD standard. Most other luxury crossovers from this segment are offering all-wheel drive either as the optional upgrade or with higher-end packages. A 2.0 unit is good for 228 hp and 258 lb-ft, which is something we can expect from a subcompact premium SUV. An eight-speed Tiptronic gearbox is sending power to all four corners. We expect improvements in the gas mileage part.
One of the options is to bring a hybrid configuration. But, the company is not unveiling detailed plans. Buyers in other parts of the world will find the 2022 Audi Q3 with other powertrains. For example, a 1.5-liter petrol mill is quite popular. A TFSI configuration is producing 150 horsepower and 185 lb-ft. Another solution is a diesel setup, centered around a 2.0-liter turbo engine. It creates 140 hp and 235 lb-ft. Outside the US we can find a model many fans would like to see overseas. That is the Q3 RS with a 2.5-liter powerplant under the bonnet. Engineers didn’t save the drivetrain, which will burst 400 ponies and 355 lb-ft of torque. The RS model beats the major competition – BMW X1 and Mercedes GLA.
Trim Levels, 2022 Audi Q3 RS
There are three base trims available for the subcompact crossover. Furthermore, you can upgrade every one of them with the S-Line package. The entry-level model is the 2022 Audi Q3 Premium. Standard equipment that makes this version pretty rich compared to the competition are a panoramic sunroof and leather seats. As said, there are no too many other subcompact vehicles with AWD right from the start. Apple CarPlay or Android Auto are ready for pairing with your smartphone. Outside, the highlight is a set of 18-inch wheels.
Premium Plus models will be equipped with a virtual cockpit. The sound system is getting a boost thanks to B&O upgrades. Navigation and parking assist sensors are also added. The top of the lineup model is Prestige. If you pick this one, you will get upscale materials, heated seats, more USB ports. The S-Line is an optional upgrade for all these trims. With this one, you are getting a wireless charging device, keyless start function and smart key lock, power lumbar not only for drivers, but also the passenger’s bucket, and numerous assist accessories. Outside, the S-Line comes with larger wheels and a special appearance bundle, such as doorsills, grille details, chromed door handles…All the higher trim levels with this option get even more.
Release Date, Price
The company didn’t do anything significant for two years. Models for 2020 and 2021 are the same. Well, the 2022 Audi Q3 is about to introduce big changes that will turn the attention to the subcompact premium crossover. It will be worth of a higher investment to get this one, especially the base trim. US buyers can find it under $35,000 after the update. The S-Line is available for $2,000, The Premium Plus package adds $3,500 over the base price. Pricing for the Prestige is not available yet. With the S-Line and a few other options, it might hit $45,000.
The company will launch the new vehicle in a few months. However, Audi is not going to wait until the last quarter of 2021. With plenty of changes on the way, designers and engineers will have extra time to tune everything perfectly.
