2022 bmw x3

The new generation of the compact luxury crossover is on the way. We doubt it will arrive as the 2022 BMW X3, or the company will just go after the redesign. Still, this is a hot segment and frequent improvements are needed. Spy photos are there to give us some clues, but not too many. BMW will soon launch the all-new M4, and the car will share the platform with the X3 crossover. That is the so-called LCI architecture which is going to improve the handling, durability, and performance.

What’s more, the carmaker is upgrading the infotainment system. The iDrive 7.0 is going to feature advanced options and high-end models will introduce a higher level of autonomous drive. Chiefs said the goal is to reach Level 4, but it seems like a long-term plan for now. We don’t know what kind of exterior updates are going to be introduced. The company is giving up on huge radiator grilles. The 2022 BMW X3 will probably keep the dimensions.

The all-electric iX3 is under the spotlight now. The state-of-art technology is announced and the first images of the X3-based electric crossover are promising.  For now, the vehicle is available with the conventional lineup of engines, including diesel units for some markets, and the plug-in hybrid system.

2022 BMW X3 Full Engine Lineup, All Specifications

A 2.0-liter turbo-four is under the hood of the base version. The 2022 BMW X3 gains 248 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. The entry-level model is not going to offer the famous xDrive AWD system. Power is being sent to rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Combined fuel economy is good, and the X3 performs the best on the open road, where you can achieve 30 mpg.

Still, most buyers are usually going after a 3.0-liter turbocharged I6. The configuration is more powerful and the upgrade is worth 100 more ponies. The I6 also creates 370 lb-ft of torque. The same transmission is pairing engine and axle and the xDrive is standard. It improves traction and balance for the compact crossover that becomes a good choice for off-roading.

The top of the class versions has the M in the nameplate. The entry M40i system is going to exploit the same powerplant, but the twin-turbo addition is squeezing 473 horsepower. You can load the 2022 BMW X3 M with even more ponies if you select the Competition package. With it, the crossover becomes one of the most powerful units in the market with 503 hp rating.

The iX3 is the ultimate goal. Meanwhile, fans of electric vehicles will be happy with the performance of the 2022 BMW X3 PHEV. The system relies on a 2.0-liter petrol engine and delivers 288 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. The xDrive30e model is returning 24 mpg combined. The iX3 is offering a range of 180 miles. But, engineers are working on the upgrades that will improve both the distance and recharging time. The competition in this segment is becoming bigger, with the Volvo XC40 Recharge already available for buying.

BMW is about to become competitive with its main rivals when it comes to the infotainment system. the iDrive 7.0 is the next-gen package with some of the most advanced features available for your ride. An all-wheel drive is optional for the 2.0-liter engine.
