2022 BMW X6 Review: Minor Changes

The 2022 BMW X6 will still be the largest coupe-SUV by the Bavarian carmaker. The X8 is delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Still, the new arrival will need some time to gain popularity and the X6 is already one of the favorites in the US. This coupe version of the X5 SUV draws attention with its aggressive bodyline. It is equipped with more luxurious features than its sibling. On the other hand, there is no room for the third row because of the lowered roof at the back. Also, you won’t get as much cargo space.

But, the 2022 BMW X6 is going to make it up with the premium features and wide choice of engines. At the top of the lineup, you will find the X6 M package with very high outputs. The competition package makes it over 600 horsepower. Still, other versions are not less impressive. If you want to save some money, then you should go after a six-cylinder unit. The main rivals are the Mercedes GLE Coupe and Porsche Cayenne Coupe.

Performance

Specs sheet will definitely draw your attention if you are not a huge fan of the bodyline. The sDrive40i is the base version with a six-cylinder engine that makes 335 horsepower. As you can see, it is not using the popular AWD called xDrive, which is an optional upgrade. An eight-speed gearbox is going to distribute power.  The base version needs about 5 seconds for 0–60 mph sprint, which is one of the best things about the 2022 BMW X6. It is faster than the X5 because the bodyline is more aesthetic, providing a better airflow and less counteraction.

The price of the X6 SUV is expensive, so as any further upgrade. If you want to get a V8 under the hood, you will have to pay at least $88,000 for the M50i performance edition. The power outputs are jumping to 523 horsepower and the 0-60 time is just over 4 seconds. You will also get the xDrive system mated to a 4.4-liter twin-turbo engine and 8-pace gearbox. Drivers are praising the system that doesn’t show any sign of lags, although there are two turbochargers attached to the drivetrain.

2022 BMW X6 M Competition

The M badge stands for the high-output version of any BMW vehicle. So it is with the X6 coupe-SUV. For the mid-size model, the 4.4-liter V8 is tuned to create 600 horsepower and drop the 0-60 mph time under 4 seconds. The best from the 2022 BMW X6 M comes with the Competition package. 617 horsepower output stops the clock at 3.7 seconds before the SUV reaches 60 mph. Of course, such power needs to be handled properly. Engineers are adding performance brakes and suspension to make a ride more comfortable. Designers put their sign there as well with unique upgrades all around the vehicle to make it easy to recognize.

No Big Changes Expected on the 2022 BMW X6

The coupe-SUV was updated and the latest generation dates from 2020. BMW is currently focused on other projects, mostly related to electrification. The iNext concept will underpin the X6 at some point, but not so soon. First, we will see iX5 and iX3. Also, the full-size coupe-SUV X8 is planned as the update for the new X7. The truck is also a long-shot. So, big things are expected from the Bavarian company, but none of them for the 2022 BMW X6.

Colors

A revisit of the color palette is possible. Currently, the base SUV comes with Alpine White and Jet Black as free options. Nine metallic paints are available and each upgrade will cost you $550. Manhattan Green, Arctic Grey, Phytonic Blue, Flamenco Red, Sparkling Brown, Mineral While, Dark Graphite, Carbon Black, and Black Sapphire are members of the current lineup. the M50i brings three unique colors available for $2,000: Dravit Grey, Tanzanite Blue II and Ametrin.

2022 BMW X6 Prices

Like said, even the base price is pretty hefty. The 2022 BMW X6 will start at $65,000. That is nearly $20,000 above the most affordable luxury mid-size SUVs, such as Lexus RX or Acura MDX. But, the level of extravagance is hard to match, even for the well-known Japanese carmakers. Compared to the X5, the coupe SUV adds about $5,000. You will have to pay $20,000 for the M50i with a V8 and AWD. The X6 M starts around $110,000 and you can build it up to $130k.
