2022 Hyundai Venue: Company’s Smallest Crossover

The 2022 Hyundai Venue is now the entry-level crossover, positioned under the Kona. The vehicle is still fresh and the changes for the upcoming season will be minor. The company launched just before the COVID-19 outburst, so the new Venue didn’t achieve sales results as it was expected. Well, the entire industry is suffering, but Hyundai believes in its subcompact crossover. For this class, it will be quite a refreshment. Small crossovers are perfect for rides in heavy traffic and urban streets. Only 160 inches long and 70 inches wide, parking the Venue will be a piece of cake. On the other hand, do not expect a performance that will leave you breathless.

Hyundai is going strong into the new season. Besides the Venue as the smallest member in the lineup, there are plenty of novelties all across the squad. Tucson is already redesigned, and we also expect the Santa Fe with a new look. Before the subcompact crossover, the carmaker started producing its largest SUV – Palisade. A few models are getting a hybrid drivetrain, while the Kona EV is a well-known zero-emission vehicle. Nexo Fuel Cell is something new in the market, and Hyundai even debuted in the luxury segment with its Genesis brand and GV80 model.

Smallest Crossover by Hyundai

The 2022 Hyundai Venue is 160 inches long. The QX architecture underpins the vehicle. In some markets, you will find the crossover built on a different platform, called QXi. The body and wheelbase are even shorter there. The distance between axles is 99 inches and the vehicle is 70 inch wide. Dimensions are making it perfect for urban cruising. Designers used the limited interior space almost perfectly, maximizing comfort. The company packed the crossover with nice equipment, to try to lure younger buyers. The price is another reason why you should consider buying this model. One change the company made for the new model is not going to be liked by fans – Hyundai removed a manual transmission. Yes, more buyers were buying auto gearboxes, but the stick is still popular among old-school drivers. All other downsides are shared with other subcompact crossovers – lack of size, power, and safety.

Under the Hood

For now, the only drivetrain for the 2022 Hyundai Venue is a 1.6-liter inline-four. For the US, we expect some upgrades. It all depends if the company wants to make its crossover more powerful, or efficient. The performance-oriented Venue N is possible, while the hybrid is always a good option. Outside the US, the crossover is available with other petrol configurations, as well as diesel powerplants.

A 1.6-liter engine is good for 121 hp and 113 lb-ft of torque. In its first appearance, the crossover was available with a manual transmission. Now, only Hyundai’s CVT is a power router. It is called Intelligent Variable Transmission. Power goes to a front axle. All-wheel drive is not an option for the 2022 Hyundai Venue. The gas mileage is fantastic and the crossover returns 30/33 mpg. A 1.0 and 1.2 models are available in other markets, while a couple of diesel units are 1.4 and 1.5 displacements.

2022 Hyundai Venue: Features and Packages

Like every other entry-level version of Hyundai’s products, the subcompact crossover is packed with nice equipment. An 8-inch screen is the center of the infotainment, which features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Safety is ok for its size, with the company adding the SmartSense package. Like we got used to it – the base model is the SE. The SEL is the mid-range offer and adds a selection of drive modes. Climate control is automatic and 4-wheel discs replace drum brakes on the rear axle. Power sunroof is making the SEL package more appealing and the blind-spot monitoring system enhances the safety.

At the top of the lineup is the 2022 Hyundai Venue Denim. It brings a unique color. A contrasting white roof will draw attention. Inside the cockpit, leather upholstery and advanced multimedia features are improving comfort and convenience. We’ll see if Venue N is going to join the lineup. It is already available for Kona and Tucson. This package is bringing sportier appearance and more powerful engines. Still, do not expect the subcompact crossover with some stunning outputs.

2022 Hyundai Venue Prices

The base price is higher for the 2022 Hyundai Venue. The reason is a dropping of a manual gearbox. Automatic transmission was optional for the SE, and now it is standard. With all the options, the Denim model will still be under $25,000. If the Venue gets a hybrid or the performance N package, expect the price bump. The new 2022 YM is not coming in the next few months. We will probably see it in dealerships in the final quarter of 2021. If you don’t like it, popular alternatives are Jeep Renegade, Chevy Trax, Honda HR-V and Nissan Kicks. Or, if you want a slightly larger vehicle, Hyundai is going to offer Kona.
