Wagoneer is another old nameplate we could see back. FCA confirmed the SUV is coming out soon. The first renders are promising and rumors started to swirl immediately. The most likely outcome is to see the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer as the full-size model, positioned above the Grand Cherokee. Another possibility for Grand Wagoneer is to be the extended version of the base Wagoneer. In that case, the SUV would take on the Chevy Suburban and Ford Expedition Max.
FCA does not lack power for these kinds of vehicles. There are a few V8 engines that can provide enough energy. Also a diesel V6. Currently, the company is not present in the full-size class, so the arrival of the 2022 Grand Wagoneer has sense.
The nameplate was used late in the 80s and discontinued in 1991. Before that, the vehicle was called just Wagoneer. The trademark was the unique wooden graphics on the side of the SUV. The new 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer might bring back a similar design. But, that would be all that reminds us on the old model. The SUV will be modernized and more versatile than it was 30 years ago.

What Do We Know So Far?
The carmaker made the comeback official. However, FCA is not providing any further details on the full-size SUV. We know the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer and Wagoneer names are going to be used. Like Ford and GM, the FCA will make one a standard configuration, while the other one will have an extended body with more space inside the cabin. Capabilities are unknown at this point.
First, the carmaker planned to launch these SUVs in 2021. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, FCA was forced to delay the development and postpone the release date. Vehicles will ride on the ladder frame and independent rear suspension. This will improve the handling and interior room. The 2022 Grand Wagoneer will be built in Warren Plant, where Ram 1500 is also being produced. According to rumors, the company is moving the production of the all-new Dodge Durango there. This means an expansion of existing facilities could happen soon, and it will require more men power.
2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Is Being Tested (Latest Spy Photos)
Heavy camo is hiding the details on the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer test mule. However, the prototype confirms the SUV will take the position above the Grand Cherokee. We were able to spy on the huge wheel arches. The work on the rest of the body is still in progress.
Photographers also managed to take a shot of the interior. It seems very similar to the latest Ram 1500 cabin. At the center of the dashboard is a 12-inch screen. Well, the entry-level SUV could arrive with a slightly smaller display. The three-row interior is certain, but we still don’t know if the Grand Wagoneer is going to seat seven or eight passengers. Independent rear suspension is replacing the solid axle, and it will provide some extra space.

We doubt the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer is going to take a V6 as the base powerplant. FCA has a couple of good starters for the entry-level offer. A 5.7-liter is a perfect fit with 360 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. This is not bad for a start, especially having in mind that V8 can return respectable towing capacity numbers. A 6.4-liter is optional for a few FCA SUVs. Wagoneer will also offer it for sure. In this case, the power output goes up. Engineers could tune it to make 500 ponies. Fuel economy is not going to be so great. For a lighter Grand Cherokee, this powerplant returns 13/19 mpg.
The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Diesel will rely on the new 3.0-liter turbo engine. It is a powerful unit with 260 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. The SUV will try to beat the Ford Expedition as the most capable towing vehicle in the class. With this configuration, Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer could reach 10,000 pounds. A diesel engine will also improve the fuel economy. Finally, there is the Hellcat 6.2-liter supercharged V8 petrol drivetrain. A high-end option can produce 707 horsepower. If this happens, the price of the 2022 Grand Wagoneer will end in six-digit waters.
2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Price
The full-size SUV is going to cost more than $50,000. We believe that $55,000 will be the starting price, while the 6.4-liter engine won’t be cheaper than $65,000. We expect more news. Jeep could offer an off-road package, for example, Rubicon or Hercules. 700 ponies will cost you a lot more, probably two times higher than the base offer.
The release date is not set yet. The SUV was supposed to debut this season, but the coronavirus outburst delayed the launch. We will probably see the first appearance late in 2021 and sales will start by the end of the year.
