The 2022 Lincoln Navigator is the flagship model that will go through a mid-cycle update. So, the expectations are huge, especially since fans can hear rumors about the new Black Label packages. These are the most prestigious versions of the luxury SUV. The company is not unveiling too much, at least not officially. Insiders are reporting there are several options for the engine room. Currently, the only powertrain is a twin-turbo V6. Some of the loudest rumors are mentioning diesel units, hybrid models, and all-electric Navigator.
We will try to analyze all the speculations and options that could happen with the mid-cycle update. There are a lot of pros and cons for each of the following modifications.
Specs and V8 Engine
Under the hood of the 2022 Lincoln Navigator is a twin-turbo V6. A high-output version of a 3.5-liter displacement is pretty mighty with 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. It also makes Navigator very capable of towing. The SUV is a leader in the luxury SUV segment with 8,700 pounds. Of course, the major downside of such a big rig is poor gas mileage. Even after the update, the SUV is not going to shine with only 18 mpg combined. All-wheel drive is optional and it consumes even more gasoline. The situation is the same as the long-wheelbase Navigator L. A ten-speed automatic gearbox is a power router.
Raptor and Diesel
The only Raptor package is available with the legendary pickup truck F-150. This vehicle is sharing the same engine as the current SUV. It might look like we already have the 2022 Lincoln Navigator Raptor with a 3.5-liter V6, but it could be changed soon. Engineers are working on a new off-road package for the truck, and the heart of power could be a new, more potent unit, capable to produce more than 700 hp. Ford is after Ram 1500 TRX Hellcat. But, can the luxury SUV get a similar upgrade to leave the competition in the dust.
Meanwhile, a turbodiesel unit is ready to jump in. General Motors added its Duramax engine to all full-size SUVs. The 2022 Navigator could respond with the 3.0-liter six-cylinder oil burner, capable to tow more than 11,500 lbs. The Powerstroke mill is delivering 440 hp through a 10-speed automatic gearbox.
2022 Lincoln Navigator Hybrid and Electric SUV
Looking at Ford’s plans and what does the competition is doing, the 2022 Lincoln Navigator Hybrid becomes a likely priority. It is still hard to imagine a full-size SUV with such a configuration. On the other hand, you cannot write off the biggest carmaker in the US. If the hybrid is not so likely, what to tell about the 2022 Lincoln Navigator Electric? It is a more difficult system to build, but the company is on the electrification path. Mach E SUV is announced and it is a matter of time when will the F-150 truck get the EV version. The luxury SUV also needs to keep up with the competition, since the Cadillac Lyriq could serve as the platform for the future Escalade EV.
New Black Label Themes
Lincoln vehicles are well-known for its Black Label series. These are the top-notch versions with unique interior themes. Currently, there are three designs: Yacht Club, Chalet, Destination. Other Lincoln SUVs are using some of the same themes, adding one or two new. The upcoming Aviator will come with monochromatic language and the 2022 Lincoln Navigator could borrow some solutions. Definitely, designers will have a tough task to stun the market again. The price will definitely do it since the refreshed lineup won’t cost under $100,000.
Spy Photos Showing 2022 Lincoln Navigator Interior and Exterior
The COVID-19 pandemic slowed down the development of the new 2022 Lincoln Navigator. We could see a refreshed SUV in 2021. Nevertheless, the facelift will take place on the 2022 YM and the first spy photos are indicating what to expect from the luxury SUV.
Heavy camo is making recognizing modifications harder. Still, a larger front grille is impossible to hide. Well, most other carmakers are making their front fascias more aggressive. The 2022 Navigator also wears the new set of headlights, but until the release date, we could see a different design. It seems that the rear end found and inspiration in the Aviator, which is not bad at all. Navigator will make it bigger and bolder.
The center of infotainment inside the 2022 Lincoln Navigator will be a larger screen. A 10-inch display doesn’t look so big in the full-size SUV. The interior also brings more convenient features and voice commands. Ford is also working on the autonomous drive, but it will appear on the Navigator Electric. Seven occupants can sit in the SUV and you can optionally remove one slot from the middle row, making space for captain’s chairs. The latest Sync3 will be available for the base trims.
