The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE is coming unchanged. Still, the SUV will remain one of the most popular choices in the family. Mercedes vehicles are not cheap. However, you would like to save some cash by opting for the GLE instead of the full-size GLS. Unless you are looking for extra space. On the other hand, the mid-size model is offering more room and power than the smaller GLC.
Small updates will refresh the lineup of the model that debuted in 2019. The GLE is in the fourth generation and the vehicle offers a wide choice for customization. Engines are definitely the most interesting. Turbocharged four-, six, and eight-cylinder mills produce a lot of power. Inline-six and V8 configurations are available with EQ technology. A hybrid combination is not so rare anymore, but it opened the doors for Mercedes to build an all-electric SUV. In Europe and other markets, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE will be also available with a diesel engine. A plug-in hybrid is paired with a four-pot turbodiesel.
The upcoming SUV will not follow the path of its sibling. The crown jewel in the lineup remains the AMG 63 model and the Maybach package is exclusive for the GLS. Good news – it is now in standard, not limited production. But, it won’t happen on any other SUV, except the GLS. Still, the AMG GLE is coming with a hefty price, plenty of power, and a lot of advanced technology inside the cockpit.
2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE Specs
Even if you are not a fan of a high-output AMG version, there will be a lot of options for your perfect ride. The entry-level SUV uses a small 2.0-liter turbo-four engine. Well, 255 hp is poor output for a luxury SUV. We really don’t know what Mercedes tried to do with this drivetrain that also crunches 273 lb-ft of torque.
A more serious configuration is a 3.0-l inline-six. Turbo and supercharged engine is getting support from the EQ Boost system for 362 horsepower and 370 lb-ft of torque. This is not a special offer that cannot be found on other similar vehicles. This time, the 4Matic AWD becomes standard and the SUV returns 19/24 mpg. A 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 is the largest engine in the lineup. For the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE, it creates 483 hp and 515 lb-ft. This might be enough for some, but the high-end AMG GLE 63 version is going even further. This setup will deliver 603 hp and 627 lb-ft. A lighter AMG configuration is also there with 430 ponies coming from returned 3.0-liter I6.
Coupe, AMG, and Other Versions
You will find the entry-level model as the GLE 350. Besides the smallest and weakest engine in the lineup, it also brings the least features. Still, the MBUX infotainment is the highlight with a 12-inch touchscreen. More options are coming with the GLE 450 and 580. Both versions are using the all-wheel drive and EQ Boost technology. Ambient lighting and wireless charging are there for a lower-tier version, while the GLE 580 adds larger wheels and air suspension.
The best models are carrying AMG badges. The lighter configuration includes the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE AMG 53 package with unique parts – performance steering wheel and alloy wheels. The Active bundle brings parking assist and LED lamps. The main upgrade for the AMG 63 S would be an engine tuned for 603 hp. Besides that, there are a few other features that will make a ride more comfortable, such as the electronic limited-slip differential.
The coupe model is available only in combination with the AMG package. This type of bodyline allows better airflow, resulting in better gas mileage. In some markets, a diesel engine is an option. For example, European buyers can purchase the GLE with a 2.0-liter or 3.0-l oil burner. A PHEV version combines a turbo-four with an EQ package for 315 hp and 515 lb-ft of twist.
2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE Prices
The cost is usually a stumbling block for buyers. The German carmaker sells its products pretty expensive. For example, the starting price for the mid-size luxury SUV is $55,000 and you are getting a turbo-four engine. A six-cylinder unit adds about $8,000, which also includes 4Matic AWD. With a V8, the GLE 580 will carry a price tag of $80,000, which is already the realm of full-size models. The AMG model with an I6 is a good deal, starting at $75,000. But, the high-end AMG 63 S is deep in six-digit waters, starting above $115,000. The BMW X5 M might be a better offer. The coupe body adds about $3,000 to each AMG configuration.
