The G-Class is the most luxurious lineup of SUVs by the German carmaker. It has a long history, with the first generation lasting nearly 30 years. Now, the second series of the vehicle is fresh, but it is time for the first update. The 2022 Mercedes G-Wagon will bring a new edition, called 4×4 Squared. It is not the first time the package is available for this vehicle. Lifted body and advanced off-road features are highlights. A bolder look is there as well, but the company is hiding details with covers. Still, it is good to know that the refresh is on the way for the 2022 season.
Besides the 4×4 Squared version, the 2022 Mercedes G-Wagon will also offer a few other models. The G550 is the package available in the US. In other countries, you will find the G-Class as G500, or G350 in China. AMG G 63 SUV is the special edition, with the most luxurious offer and 577 horsepower under the hood. Diesel versions are also available in certain markets.
All in all, the 2022 Mercedes G-Class is still the most expensive offer the German manufacturer is making. Well, buyers of these vehicles will pay for a unique set of features that can’t be found elsewhere. Also, the boxy look is eye-catching, while the AMG edition is there to storm the entrance, wherever G-Wagen shows up.
2022 Mercedes G-Wagon Specs
The first special thing about the SUV is the high power output. The base 2022 Mercedes G-Wagon will keep a 4.0-liter twin-turbo configuration, which is also available with the G500 model outside the US. It is producing 416 hp and 450 pound-feet of torque, which is enough to make the G-Class sprint to 60 mph in less than 6 seconds. All-wheel drive is standard, and a nine-speed automatic transmission shifts the power to all four corners. The gas mileage is not a strong side of this SUV. However, when you pay more than $130,000 for a ride, 20 mpg is not a problem. On the other hand, frequent visits to gas stations could be annoying.
The vehicle is also available with diesel units, but these are not available in the US. For the record, there are two configurations – G 350 D and G 400 D. Both are using a 3.0-liter oil-burner. In the first case, owners are getting 380 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque, while the other one is enhancing the power outputs to 325 horsepower and 515 lb-ft. The maximum speed of this diesel setup is 130 mph.
2022 Mercedes-Benz G-Class AMG G 63
The top of the range offer, like for every Mercedes-Benz vehicle, is the AMG package. But, the G-Class is one of the most expensive you can find at dealerships. It will cost $160,000 and a $30k upgrade brings you 160 hp and nearly 180 lb-ft, for a total of 577 ponies and 627 lb-ft of twist. Converted to other specs, it lets AMG SUV accelerate 0-60 mph in just 4.5 seconds. The boxy shape is not so aerodynamic and the vehicle could achieve an even better time.
Besides the drivetrain upgrades, the 2022 Mercedes G-Wagon AMG G 63 model also brings the special setup for adaptive suspension and drive models. You will recognize this version thanks to the special modifications and one of them is exhaust pipe design, with side mount. Wireless charging is now standard, and the AMG model also brings upscale material and advanced technology inside the cabin.

2022 Mercedes G-Wagon 4×4 Squared
Recently, spy photographers caught the special edition of the vehicle. The 2022 Mercedes G-Wagon 4×4 Squared is back for the new generation after five years. The suspension lift and more off-road equipment will make the G-Class a serious vehicle for different kinds of adventures. This version was inspired by the 6×6 vehicle built for military purposes.
Well, the company didn’t show too much inspiration looking at the fender flares. These are the same as the last time the Squared model was available. Test mules are showing a unique roof rack, but it could be replaced for the production version. Safety and rollovers are probably tested with these special upgrades.
Release Date and Price
The 2022 Mercedes G-Wagon will be available soon. The base lineup of standard and AMG models will be unchanged. The Squared 4×4 version looks production-ready and it is just a matter of time when it will be available are dealerships. The price will definitely be hefty.
