2022 Volvo XC60 redesign

The partnership with the Polestar company already resulted with the special edition of the Volvo XC60. Can two companies take it to the next level? Volvo is bringing the subcompact XC40 with an electric drivetrain. However, their green intentions are obvious for a long time. On the other hand, Polestar presented the new electric SUV concept. Can it underpin the next 2022 Volvo XC60? Is it going to wear the Recharge or Polestar logo? Or something new?

The 2022 Volvo XC60 redesign will also bring changes on the standard model. The mid-cycle update is on the way and only designers know what they are preparing. First test mules are not out yet. We believe the company will keep the existing drivetrains, but the styling should get a whole new look.

The electric model will dictate the future of other versions, especially the T8 PHEV system. It won’t be so attractive anymore if the EV steps into the market. On the other hand, T5 and T6 should remain options, although Volvo will cut these as well at some point in the future. Diesels units for European buyers are even closer to discontinuation.

2022 Volvo XC60 Redesign Changes

We can look at other models and try to paste the solutions to the 2022 Volvo XC60. It is not so simple, especially knowing how unpredictable the Swedish company is. Still, the shield grille is probably becoming bigger. Adaptive lights are getting a new shape and this system is becoming available at lower trim levels.

Volvo is also working on safety. Again, nothing new. This is the most important segment for the Swedish carmaker. Also, we can hear official statements that the Level 4 autonomous drive is also under development. However, the timetable of the release is not announced yet. Still, we don’t believe it is going to happen on the 2022 Volvo XC60. Still, the electric configuration will definitely bring something more advanced than the current driver-aid package.

We Can’t Wait to Buy

Versions

Buyers will still have a lot of options at their disposal. Volvo has a few different engine setups and trim level configurations. We’ll talk about T5 and T6 later. Now, let’s check what kind of options are expected from the trio of models for the upcoming 2022 Volvo XC60. The base version is the Momentum and it comes with a new grille and bumper styling. 18-inch wheels are standard. Buyers can still take larger rims, not only on this trim. Of course, the leading smartphone device services are there and Volvo is not saving on the quality of the materials inside the cockpit. The highlight is definitely the panoramic sunroof. Most rivals bring this feature at the high-end models, and sometimes it is an optional upgrade even there.

The 2022 Volvo XC60 R-Design will keep its unique setup, making the ride sportier. This is possible thanks to the special suspension tuning and lower chassis. Nappa leather will stun new buyers. More safety and drive-aid features are available, including blind-spot monitors and lane keep assisting. Something’s left for the Inscription version as well. Volvo is loading it with the most advanced features, such as navigation, wireless charging and special interior trims. Chromed exterior will make this version easy to recognize.

Two companies are going to continue their partnership on the new 2022 Volvo XC60 Polestar. However, this time it is not going to be a performance-oriented model based on the petrol configuration, but a possible all-electric crossover SUV. This branch of Volvo company presented an all-electric concept that can underpin the XC60 EV. Many experts see this as the perfect platform for the new model. It is not a secret that Volvo has aspirations to turn all its products into zero-emission vehicles. So, the 2022 XC60 Polestar has a lot of sense. Nevertheless, this is just speculation. We will know more this summer when the Polestar 3 is about to debut. According to rumors, the max range will be over 300 miles.

T5, T6, T8

The T5 and T6 setups remain a part of the lineup, at least for the 2022 Volvo XC60. All the configurations are based on a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. For the T5, the engine is turbocharged and creates 250 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. An eight-speed gearbox transfers the power to front wheels. This is the most efficient setup, returning 25 mpg combined, or slightly less if you are after the AWD. Both axles will move the crossover when the vehicle is configured with the T6. In this case, the engine is turbo and supercharged for 316 horsepower and 295 pound-feet. But, this is not all. A T8 is the most powerful model, coming with 400 ponies, or extra 15 if you equip the Polestar package. The 2022 Volvo XC60 T8 is the PHEV system where the petrol engine is paired with an electric battery. The gas mileage jumps to 27 mpg combined.
