The biggest change on the 2023 BMW X2 will be the new GoldPlay edition package. The company is introducing a unique bundle of styling details with a lot of golden accents, inside and out. The rest of the lineup will stay the same, in the US and across the world. The compact crossover is perfect for city cruising. There are similar vehicles with better gas mileage, but the overall performance will be on the BMW X2’s side.
Under the hood of the US version is a 2.0-liter engine as the base choice. It is also available tuned at 300 hp. In Europe, diesel units and plug-in hybrid systems are also parts of the lineup. The entry-level package is sDrive28i. you can upgrade it with an AWD, while the famous xDrive is standard on the M35i version.
Although smaller than its siblings, the X2 is everything you expect from a BMW. It drives nicely, looks aggressive, and the top of the range version comes with an impressive specs sheet. On the other hand, the price is a bit high for the mini SUV, starting at $38,000. What’s more, Android Auto is not part of the infotainment system. We praise styling, but the practicality should be better.
2023 BMW X2 Edition GoldPlay
The new package draws a lot of attention. The GoldPlay combines interesting details and elements to make the small crossover more aggressive than the standard edition. For the US market, the 2023 BMW X2 GoldPlay is available only as an upgrade for the xDrive28i model, while the M version is not offering the new bundle. There are plenty of gold accents around the body to introduce the Edition GoldPlay to its buyers. They will also have a selection of fresh paintjobs. Here are the colors for the new model: Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Storm Bay and Skyscraper Grey, while the San Remo Green is exclusive for this model. Still, the main addition is the Galvanic Gold graphics on side skirts and wheels. In Europe, golden details also surround the grille.

Standard Editions
Like we got used to the subcompact crossover, it appears with two packages. The sDrive28i is the base edition and the highlight is a 2.0-liter engine with 228 hp and 258 lb-ft. The bigger brother, X3, is using the same configuration. The manufacturer recommends premium gas for the best performance. An eight-speed automatic transmission sends power to the front wheels. The xDrive AWD is optional for the 28i model. An automatic start/stop system is also there, but you can turn it off.
The 2023 BMW X2 M35i is a high-end version with a price tag that exceeds expectations from a subcompact crossover. The same 2.0-liter turbo-four engine is under the hood. But, the M version delivers 300 horsepower and 330 lb-ft of torque. The gas mileage is not suffering too much. The M model returns 23/30 mpg, while the 28i is good for 24/31 miles per gallon with the xDrive on.
Favorite Features and Accessories
The list of standard options for the 2023 BMW X2 is going to be quite long. Here are some hot takes from the equipment. For example, drivers love parking sensors at both ends. A power liftgate is making access to the cargo area easier. Inside, you will find dual-zone climate control, simulated leather seats, and power-adjustable front buckets. The center of the infotainment is an 8.8-inch touchscreen. We already brought it up – Android Auto is unavailable, but Apple CarPlay is standard. The M35i upgrades the offer not only with a more potent engine. There are parts to help X2 handle the extra power, such as a rear spoiler, limited-slip differential, or advanced brakes.
Optional Packages
Besides the standard offer, you can also add some of the packages the company is offering or single features. The Convenience bundle is pretty interesting with power-folding and auto-dimming mirrors, panoramic sunroof and lumbar support. The Premium package comes with those options from the Convenience set, plus heated steering wheel and front seats, HUD, larger screen and navigation. The M Sport X uses 20-inch wheels, special accents for the interior and exterior, and optional sport-tuned suspension, transmission and steering wheel. The best single add-ons are roof rails, adaptive cruise control, a self-parking system, or wireless charging.
2023 BMW X2 Price
The only unknown detail about the upcoming vehicle is the price of the 2023 BMW X2 GoldPlay Edition. Without big changes, the rest of the lineup should come with the same tags. That means the base sDrive28i will be available for $38,000, and the AWD costs $2,000 more. The M35i, without upgrades, is going to stay under $50,000, but not too far. The M Sport X package costs $4,500, Convenience is available for $2,300, and the difference with the Premium bundle will cost you another $1,300.
