The X8 is not out yet, but fans are thinking about further moves. It is unlikely to see the SUV so soon, but it can be introduced during the 2022 season. Still, the odds of the 2023 BMW X8 M happening are very tiny, having in mind that X7 had its performance version coming a year after the standard model. So, what are the expectations from the X8 M?
The vehicle is about to be a coupe version of the X7, like every other BMW SUV with even numbers in its alphanumeric name. It is very obvious, but it doesn’t need to be the truth. Other rumors we hear about the big model is it will be an electric vehicle. In this case, the 2023 BMW X8 M would be a big mystery. The performance version of the EV? It is even hard to imagine.
2023 BMW X8 M – Performance Above Anything Else
So, everything about the M badge is about the performance. Every M crossover and SUV are high-end versions of the standard model. Just take a look at the closest siblings of the upcoming 2023 BMW X8 M – the X6, since the X7 didn’t bring the M model yet. Instead, the carmaker launched the version with the help of Alpina, and it is called XB7. The X8 might take the same path, or even do the Alpina upgrades.
Under the bonnet of the 2023 BMW X8 M will be the mightiest version of the eight-cylinder engine by the German carmaker. That is a 4.4-liter displacement with more than 500 horsepower. Depending on the size and configuration, the outputs can reach 615 ponies. This one is only available with the X6 M SUV if you upgrade it with the Competition package.
Competition
It is hard to say why the company would bring the 2023 BMW X8 M out. Well, the base model is not announced yet. But, it is just a matter of time when will the X8 happen, and its performance-oriented version. This is going to be one of the best performing full-size SUVs in the market. The X6 is at the same level as some other performance vehicles, but we saw nothing so big with such high outputs. We assume that Jeep Grand Wagoneer Trackhawk is a potential rival, but FCA told the Hellcat engine is not planned for their largest SUV.
If we take a look at the yard of other German carmakers, only the Mercedes GLS seems to have the capability to stand against the BMW X8 M. However, it will need a coupe version (if BMW keeps the tradition of the nomenclature). There are not too many coupe SUVs available in the market. Porsche Cayenne is one of them, but it is still a mid-size model, like the Lamborghini Urus. Italian exotic company is using the same engine as Porsche.
2023 BMW X8 M – Release Date and Price
From this point of view, it is very hard to predict what will happen with the 2023 BMW X8 M. We can say one thing – the M version is not going into production as the 2023 YM. We need to see the X8 first, and even this one is not confirmed yet. Then, some time will pass before the M badge steps up. Finally, the big question mark is above the entire lineup, since BMW is not coming out with official plans of building the SUV.
Other Possibilities
Like said, the 2023 BMW X8 M might arrive as a type of electric model, but no one seems to believe in this speculation. If we must pick some other rumor, that would be the performance SUV with a different name. BMW took the Alpina package instead of the trademark M badge for the X7. It makes all of the fans wonder – will the same thing happen with the X8?
