The second generation has just been updated for the 2022 season, so we expect only minor changes on the 2023 Chevrolet Traverse. The mid-size three-row SUV is still very competitive, although it lacks a hybrid engine. Fans believed this could become a replacement for the diesel unit, but it is still not the case. Instead, General Motors is developing a fully-electric SUV. But, the competition of the Traverse is evolving, so the GM needs to figure out something.
The facelift of the SUV was planned for the 2021 season, but the premiere was postponed because of the COVID-19 outburst. The new styling finds inspiration on its full-size siblings, Tahoe and Suburban. We see similar grille and bumpers. Plus, there are LED lights, front and back, and DRLs. Highlights of the interior are smartphone integration services, which are wireless now, as well as the improved safety system. At the top of the lineup, you find the High Country model. It makes the 2023 Chevrolet Traverse a luxury SUV. Still, the base version is going to be affordable, starting at around $35,000.
Models and Features
The redesign didn’t change the lineup. The LS is still the base version of the SUV and it is also the most popular package if we measure it by sales. Of course, many buyers will invest a bit more to get extra features the LT and RS models are offering. Above $50,000, we can consider 2023 Chevrolet Traverse Premier and High Country as luxury SUVs.
The entry-level package contains a set of 18-inch wheels, automatic lights, heated mirrors, and a seating capacity for eight passengers. Wireless connection is available both for Android and iOS devices. the center of the multimedia is a 7-inch screen. The safety system comes with the forward collision warning with automatic braking, lane keep assist, parking sensors, and blind-spot monitoring.
The LT comes in cloth and leather versions. Foglights, roof rails, and power-adjustable driver’s buckets are standard in both cases. The LT Leather also adds heated front seats and steering wheel, and increases the size of the touchscreen display. This one is also eligible for the Premium package features.
The 2023 Chevrolet Traverse RS is the upscale version that costs just under $50,000. Premium package is included, as well as all the features from the previous model. Plus, the company adds unique blacked-out 20-inch wheels and dark styling details. The Premier version comes with chrome door handles, liftgate is hands-free, and the driver’s seat has memory settings. Front seats also get ventilation. The 2023 Traverse High Country adds a lot of stuff, such as panoramic roof, power-folding rear row, or trailer hitch. Still, GM is not adding trailering camera.
2023 Chevrolet Traverse Colors
Four colors are at disposal for the base 2023 Chevrolet Traverse. Those are Silver Ice, Summit White, Mosaic Black, and Northsky Blue. The LT adds more options – Silver Sage and Black Cherry. If you want to pay extra, Cherry Red is going to cost $500, and Iridescent Pearl Tricoat nearly $1,000. Premium black cloth is the new interior scheme. The RS cuts a few paints from the palette. Premium paintjobs are standard on the Premier, and the interior brings another combination – Jet Black and Maple Sugar.
2023 Chevrolet Traverse Specs: Another Year Without Hybrid Model
Sadly, the 2023 Chevrolet Traverse will only use a 3.6-liter V6 engine. There are no alternatives in plans for the foreseeable future. It can produce 310 horsepower, which is not bad for a three-row SUV. Still, we would like to see some kind of alternative, and the Traverse used to get power from a turbo-four and a diesel unit. Discontinuation of those two made us think the hybrid model could be on the way, but that was not the case. The SUV is going to need reinforcement to stay competitive.
There are no sources to confirm rumors about a turbocharged 2.7-liter engine, recently added to the Chevy Silverado lineup. With 300 horsepower, it would be a perfect fit for the mid-size SUV. A smaller displacement would also save fuel. Ultimate speculation mentions a hybrid configuration based on this engine. It would be a perfect solution, especially if the system is getting at least 350 horsepower.
2023 Chevrolet Traverse Release Date and Prices
With so many options, the price of the 2023 Chevrolet Traverse will have a wide range. The base MSRP is $35,000 for the LS. The LT adds $2,500 and a leather version requires a more serious investment of another $6k. The RS stays under $50,000, while the Premier exceeds this mark. Finally, the High Country starts at $55,000 and with options, the price can gain $10,000.
Since the big changes are missing, the 2023 Chevy Traverse could bring color updates or another trim level. We will know more when the vehicle becomes available for purchase. That won’t be before the second half of 2022.
