The new Wagoneer is here, 30 years after its last appearance. Now, the nameplate is back, but we still don’t have full details. It is going to be a family vehicle with premium equipment. Bad news – the SUV is not bringing back a wooden trim on the side body panels. On the other hand, we can’t wait to see the 2023 Jeep Wagoneer Trailhawk version with magnificent off-road capabilities. For now, Trackhawk with Hellcat engine is not an option, neither for Wagoneer nor Grand Wagoneer.
You can already pre-order the SUV. However, the trim levels are strange, unlike other Jeep vehicles. The Wagoneer is offered in Series II and Series III editions, while the Grand Wagoneer adds Series I and Obsidian. The 2023 Jeep Wagoneer Trailhawk must be part of the lineup, that is for sure. The SRT is not likely to happen, as well as the Trackhawk.
The key difference between the two new SUVs lays under the hood. In the first case, the Wagoneer features a 5.7-liter V8, while the 2023 Grand Wagoneer is going to use a 6.4-liter engine. Diesel is not there for the initial editions of premium SUVs.
Premium Full-Size SUV With Superb Off-Road Skills
The first time we’ve heard rumors about the comeback, it was obvious – the SUV is going to be the full-size model. Jeep is delivering models in all other segments and it is strange to see a popular brand without a representative in the big rig world. But, most experts thought the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will make the same thing as Chevy Tahoe and Suburban, or Ford Expedition and Expedition Max. But, the 2023 Grand Wagoneer is just an upscale version of the base SUV.
But, our sources didn’t mention that the upcoming model will be the premium vehicle. The base price starts just under $70,000. So, the 2023 Jeep Wagoneer Trailhawk is going to be the competitor of the Toyota Land Cruiser. Two companies are at each other for years, especially in the 4×4 market. Wrangler and 4Runner are the best-selling vehicles for such adventures. Now, Wagoneer and Land Cruiser is taking the battle to the next level.
2023 Jeep Wagoneer Trailhawk Upgrades
Of course, the 4WD is the first thing the 2023 Jeep Wagoneer Trailhawk is getting. To be more capable of off-roading, there will be also special suspension and shocks tuning. The traction Management System will allow the quick switch between modes. Skid plates are protecting body. Tow hooks, hill descent control, and a few other features will also be there. The interior should offer a more comfortable ride. The same equipment is going to be available for the 2023 Grand Wagoneer Trailhawk.
Engines and Specifications
There were no doubts about the powertrain for the full-size SUV. FCA is using big displacements with eight cylinders that can make the 2023 Jeep Wagoneer Trailhawk competitive. The only question was – which one will be a base solution. A 5.7-liter V8 is there for the standard Wagoneer with 360 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. it provides enough power and twist for off-road adventures. An eight-speed transmission sends power to both axles.
For now, a diesel unit is not an option. It would be a cool upgrade for the 4×4 system, although a 30-liter EcoDiesel is a six-cylinder unit with 460 lb-ft. But, the alternative is going to be the 2023 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Trailhawk with a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 engine. The upscale version of the SUV can produce 470 hp and 455 lb-ft of twist. A 6.2-liter supercharged Hellcat engine is not coming yet. the Wagoneer Trackhawk might be a model for the 2024 season, or beyond.
2023 Jeep Wagoneer Trailhawk Pricing
FCA released the prices of the first editions. If you make a pre-order, the most affordable configuration is for the Wagoneer Series II. It costs $70k, while the Series III package adds $5,000. You must pay $3,000 more for the 4WD. Series I Grand Wagoneer with a 6.4-liter engine starts at $89,000. Obsidian exceeds $100,000 mark and the Series III package swims deeper into six-digit price waters. The 2023 Jeep Wagoneer Trailhawk will be around $75,000, or $100k if you are after the Grand Wagoneer with a larger engine.
2023 Jeep Wagoneer Trailhawk vs Toyota Land Cruiser
There are no doubts that the biggest rival of the 2023 Jeep Wagoneer Trailhawk is the Land Cruiser. It is an iconic vehicle that closed the gap between luxury and utility. Nowadays, we have more of those SUVs. Toyota and Jeep are already fierce rivals in the mid-size 4×4 world, where 4Runner and Wrangler are fighting their battle. The 2023 Wagoneer Trailhawk might dominate the market if the latest rumors come true and Toyota discontinues Land Cruiser in the US. The legendary vehicle is finally launching Series 300, but for buyers in Asia and Europe. Still, Wagoneer will see competition from the same carmaker, since Toyota is also producing the new generation of its premium Lexus LX 600 SUV.
