Lexus pushed the border with the next-gen full-size luxury SUV. It happened exactly how we were writing – the LX 600 replaced an old nameplate. But, hold on – the 2023 Lexus LX 570 might happen eventually. The new SUV is very expensive. Its high-end version costs nearly $130,000. We didn’t expect this from the Japanese company. Well, yes, the LX is very luxurious and rides on the new platform. Changes after 15 years are welcome but at the right price. The LX 570 for another season or two would help us get used to the new model. Of course, it would be a more affordable option for buyers not willing to spend $100k on a ride.
But, the company started a new chapter. Reintroducing the LX 570 would be a step back. There are some sources telling us it might happen eventually. What does Lexus want from this move, they still don’t know. Will the 2023 Lexus LX 570 represent the old generation, or the new one? There are too many questions about this model, and it is best to compare the vehicle with the new LX 600.
2023 Lexus LX 570 vs LX 600: Performance
The old SUV was heavily criticized for two things. One of them is a thirsty engine. A 5.7-liter V8 was one of the best units in the market. It rarely fails and combined with proper tuning, the LX could become unstoppable. But, 15 mpg was something that caused a lot of critics. The engine didn’t cause problems only to the LX, but also other vehicles – Toyota Land Cruiser, Tundra truck. Anyway, the company decided it is time for a replacement. All those vehicles are in the new generations, and all of them will feature the new I-Force engine.
Instead of 380 hp and 400 lb-ft, a twin-turbo V6 is now good for 390 ponies and 480 lb-ft. Still, we will have to wait to see the first impressions of the off-road performance. On the road, the LX 600 brings the first advantage over the 2023 Lexus LX 570 – improved gas mileage. Well, for fans ready to pay $90k and more, the consumption is not too important. But, frequent refueling can be very annoying. So, paying extra for something new, including the driving impression is something definitely worth of investment.
Old vs New: Styling
Again, the rumors about the 2023 Lexus LX 570 are making us think what would the SUV look like. Will it still be an old model, with lines and options we got used to? Well, the LX 570 was ready for the redesign, but its styling was pretty modern, even after 15 years. Now, the SUV is even more aggressive, with the new front fascia, rear end, and side skirts. The vehicle is even 5 inches longer. Previously, the LX 570 was available as two- and three-row SUV. The LX 600 carried over those options and layouts for five or seven passengers. Speaking of technology, you can’t compare old and new. Plus, the LX 600 can be built further.
2023 Lexus LX 570 Expectations
Rumors about the 2023 Lexus LX 570 are not coming from the company, that is for sure. It will be a big surprise if the carmaker brings back the old nameplate. We’ve been waiting for the LX 600 for a long time. It brought everything fans wanted to see. A new drivetrain, platform, styling and interior are here, so downgrading to an old version is definitely not a smart move. So, the source of speculations is probably old fans that can’t accept the LX 570 is no longer available. Bottom line – the SUV opened a new chapter and there won’t be steps back.
Toyota Discontinued the Land Cruiser
The LX 600 is sharing the new platform with the new Land Cruiser. The company decided to launch new generations of its full-size luxury SUVs on the fresh architecture. Series 300 is finally here, since both LX and Land Cruiser were riding on the old Series 200 concept for more than 15 years. But, the LX 600 won’t see the close sibling as the rival in the US. Toyota opted to cut the Land Cruiser 300 from North America to make more space to the new project. Buyers in the rest of the world are keener on the LC, rather than Lexus SUV.
