Mitsubishi is looking to expand the lineup in the US. There are a few interesting models that could arrive across the ocean. But, the 2023 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is not one of them. What’s more, the vehicle struggles and the future in other markets are also under the question mark. The smaller brother of the famous Pajero was introduced in 1996 and it is currently in the third generation. After eight years, the Japanese company is making a big decision – discontinuation, or the new series. Pajero is already out with the expiration of the 2021 season.
The good news is that the company could shift the entire focus on the 2023 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport. The new model might be the best thing ever. The Japanese carmaker is joining forces with other manufacturers and some technology is going to be borrowed from bigger names in the automotive world. Still, those are global changes, and there are no details about particular vehicles. Sales definitely indicate that crossovers and SUVs are the most popular. So, there is no question why experts believe that the best things are coming for the Pajero Sport and Outlander.
2023 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Specs and Hybrid
A 3.0-liter V6 is a perfect match for the mid-size SUV. The engine can deliver 230 horsepower and engineers will look to maximize the efficiency. The redesign could make the 2023 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport lighter, which leads to better gas mileage. Rear-wheel drive is standard, but you can select the AWD system. Independent rear suspension makes a ride smoother, even on tough surfaces. The gas mileage is not exceptional.
A diesel unit is a more popular choice. It is a 2.4-liter turbocharged mill with 185 hp and 320 pound-feet of torque. An automatic transmission sends power to the rear or all wheels. The company dropped a 2.5-liter engine. Its 135 hp was not enough for the mid-size SUV. Still, Mitsubishi plans to deliver more hybrid configurations, especially after the success of Outlander.
New Generation
The carmaker discontinued its long-serving legend – Pajero. Still, the nameplate will live on with a smaller brother. That leaves more resources and space for the 2023 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and the redesign we might see. Full-size SUVs are not so popular outside the US, but the mid-size class never achieved better sales numbers. It is a clear call for changes and improvements to keep up with the competition.
The new 2023 Pajero Sport will keep dimensions. That means seating capacity for seven persons. Buyers can easily turn it into a five-seater. The new technology is something Mitsubishi needs to include, especially at higher trim levels. The current version lacks those features, and the base model is not going to impress in most markets. Still, the price will go up, depending on the level of equipment the SUV is going to offer.
Furthermore, the fresh look will also be there to draw more attention. Changes of the front fascia include a new grille, headlights, as well as the rear end and side skirts. All in all, with the absence of the regular Pajero, more fans will turn to its smaller sibling.
