2023 Nissan Pathfinder interior

The mid-size SUV is all-new for this season. That means, the 2023 Nissan Pathfinder is not bringing big cosmetic updates. There might be a fresh color in the palette, a feature or two across the trim levels, and as the most notable upgrade – the hybrid engine. Well, experts are not so sure about this powertrain. Fans expected the comeback with the new generation of the SUV, but it didn’t happen straight away, and we are still speculating about the 2023 Pathfinder Hybrid

All in all, we have the first feedbacks about the SUV. A fresh look is definitely something that draws attention. Still, some fans are not happy with the modern appearance. But, most of them are impressed with a new transmission. The CVT is not a power router anymore. The company kept the best in the class towing rating of 6,000 pounds, while the seating capacity is eight.

What else Nissan could do? Well, the chassis is new, but it is still built on the previous generation. Some features are missing, such as a wireless charger and connection for Android and iOS devices. Plus, the 2023 Nissan Pathfinder is still riding on the unibody architecture. It is not bad at all, but we wanted to see another SUV with the ladder frame. Finally, the reason most fans believe the 2023 Pathfinder Hybrid is on the way is the lack of alternative to a 3.5-liter V6 mill.

Specifications

Under the hood of the 2023 Nissan Pathfinder is the same powertrain we saw in the previous generation. The fifth-gen SUV will rely on a V6 power as the main system. A 3.5-liter displacement can provide 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. However, this time it is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The new system is going to work smoother than with an old CVT gearbox. The gas mileage is not impressive, mainly because of the size and weight of the Pathfinder. The vehicle is 197 inches long (12 inches shorter than full-size Armada) and returns 24 mpg. All-wheel drive is optional and consumes a bit more gasoline. The towing capacity stays put at 6,000 pounds. Most other mid-size three-row SUVs can’t haul more than 5,000 lbs.

2023 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid

To stay competitive, the SUV is going to need a choice under the bonnet. A V6 is a reliable and durable unit. But, buyers might look for something else. The 2023 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid is the best choice, without doubts. But, the company seems to have different plans. Ariya concept was presented and it is going to underpin future EVs. Could Pathfinder be one of them? Maybe, but not in 2023.

So, it leaves a few other options to engineers. A turbo-four is the most common alternative to a V6 is the mid-size SUV class. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see a V8 as well. But, a 5.6-liter engine would be too much for this segment. A twin-turbo V6 is the perfect match if the Nismo model shows up.

Trim Levels

After a year of pause, the Japanese carmaker updated the vehicle with plenty of new things. Besides the engine, the trim level lineup is the same as before. At least, the names. But, packages are introducing new features and options.

Everything starts with the S model. A set of 18-inch wheels is standard, keyless entry and 3-zone climate control. On the safety side, you are getting blind-spot monitor, forward collision mitigation and lane departure warning. The Highlander SV adds remote start as another keyless function. Mirrors and front seats are heated, while the steering wheel is wrapped in leather. Driver’s bucket features a power-adjusting system. Adaptive cruise control and lane keep are added to the safety package. Premium package with panoramic roof and power liftgate becomes an eligible option for upgrading.

The SL is the next trim in the pecking order. With all the features the SV comes along, this one also adds a power liftgate, leather seats, larger touchscreen display with navigation, and extra USB port. Premium package for this trim level includes 20-inch wheels, panoramic roof, and maximum towing capacity of 6,000 pounds. The 2023 Nissan Pathfinder Platinum beats all other models with genuine leather upholstery, ambient lighting, hands-free liftgate, power outlet and the HUD.

When Will 2023 Nissan Pathfinder be Available?

The release date of the 2023 Nissan Pathfinder depends on the hybrid engine. When it’s ready, the company is going to introduce the SUV, without big changes in the rest of the lineup. The base MSRP will stay put. The S model is the most affordable, with the $34,000 price tag. The SV adds nearly $5,000 in features, while the SL exceeds $40,000 mark, without the Premium package. With this upgrade, the Platinum edition of the Pathfinder is going to cost more than $50k.
