The all-electric SUV is out. Sales of the 2023 YM are finished and you can already pre-order the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq. The price stays put, from $63,000. However, we’ll see what options the company is going to add for the new season. Single- and dual-motor setups are available. For now, the three-motor configuration is not in plans. However, Cadillac could challenge Tesla with a high-output drivetrain that can crack more than 11,000 lb-ft of torque. Well, in the real world, there is a catch about this number and the way of measuring it.
The styling of the EV is futuristic, outside and inside. Cadillac used its trademark features and design solutions. The Lyriq is specific, so we won’t see the traditional lineup naming. Also, some advanced systems are about to be implemented. We hope for Crab Walk or Extract Mode, currently available only for the Hummer truck. But, the Ultra Cruise system could debut, replacing the Super Cruise.
2024 Cadillac Lyriq Pricing and Availability
The base model for the 2023 YM was sold for $62,990. Well, the Debut Edition was a limited offer for $59,990. The new batch of the vehicle is coming out next year and we expect the price to stay put. The dual-motor setup is a bit more expensive, but buyers are also getting all-wheel drive. The package costs only $2,000 above the base model, so we can see modifications of this price is certain.
The company ended the production of the Debut edition and the first batch of electric SUVs. So, whoever bought the 2023 YM had luck. Next orders for the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq are on the way and deliveries will start in mid-year.
Electric SUVs: Competition, Future
The Lyriq is the first electric vehicle announced by General Motors. The company is going strong in the new market. Many experts had doubts since GM had no experience in the hybrid world. But, this is a big step and besides the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq, a few more electric models are out already. Chevy Bolt is the subcompact EV, and there is another big SUV available – Hummer. The legendary nameplate is also a truck, where you’ll find the Silverado EV. In the next few years, the company is going to launch more and more electric SUVs and other vehicles.
The competition is growing, but this is still a high-end and futuristic segment. The technology is pretty high. But, compared to the first models, EVs are becoming more affordable. Tesla is a leader here and there are no too many carmakers that can keep pace with their innovations. Besides GM, Ford will also try to do it with the Mach E SUV. Rivian has interesting concepts, but for a couple of years there are no investors for this startup project.
2024 Cadillac Lyriq Specs and Range
Under the body of the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq is a 340-hp rated electric battery. It delivers the power through the rear axle. It is enough to make the SUV sprint 0-60 mph in less than 6 seconds. Optionally, a dual-motor setup provides extra power to both axles. The total is 500 hp and the range increases. Still, the driving is not as impressive as with the classic vehicles with an internal combustion engine. However, the braking system receives a lot of positive feedback. In the future, a third motor could be added. In this case, a massive torque is expected. Still, the company is not measuring it at wheels, where it should get to the normal range.
The single-motor SUV is going to cover the range of 312 miles on a single charge. After that, the recharging takes about an hour to get up to 80 percent. At home outlets, it takes a lot more time. Ranges of dual and tri-motor systems are not tested in the real-world yet.
Features and Options
The base version of the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq comes equipped with advanced technology. There are a lot of unique details in the cabin that make the ride more comfortable. The production version dropped the prototype’s four-passenger layout and entertaining system in the rear row. Well, the entry-level Lyriq is without the HUD and Super Cruise as well. So, the company made a few exclusions to make the SUV more affordable.
The cabin is quiet, but it is not a problem with electric vehicles. Still, the noise cancellation is going to keep the sounds outside the SUV, especially at higher speeds. Interesting, the Lyriq is not offering a frunk – the trunk under the hood.
Inside, you won’t miss a huge screen that stretches all over the dashboard. It is both infotainment and gauge display. Advanced Cadillac infotainment system delivers all the upscale options, such as AKG sound. Voice controls are improved and there are also traditional knobs and buttons to bring back an old-school touch.
