It’s been two years after the debut of the latest generation of the largest SUV by GM. The company made small updates to the following models and the mid-cycle refresh is not due yet. But, the 2024 Chevrolet Suburban could bring something special. According to our sources, the electric version is on the way. Well, we already wrote about the Tahoe EV. Since those two SUVs are mechanical twins, the electric drivetrain will be pretty similar.
The rest of the lineup remains pretty much unchanged. Do not hope to see the performance-oriented configuration, although the company launched the V-Series package for the Cadillac Escalade luxury SUV. Instead, we can guess what other options the 2024 Chevy Suburban is getting. For example, the SUV now offers the Super Cruise. The replacement for this system is on the way and GM calls it Ultra Cruise. It will take the autonomous drive to a new level.
Electric Drivetrain Under Development
There is plenty of time for the engineers to refresh the upcoming SUV. But, the biggest task is set – the 2024 Chevrolet Suburban electric. This is not a big surprise. General Motors is in the huge electrification process and the first vehicles are already out. Many of them will be out in 2024 and 2025. In a few years, every model will offer an electric drivetrain in its lineup.
From this point of view, the 2024 Chevy Suburban EV doesn’t seem like a good idea. There are no too so big SUVs with an electric drivetrain. For a reason – huge vehicles need a lot of power, and big electric batteries cost and weigh a lot. Furthermore, that means a price out of range for most buyers. At this moment, there are no estimations about the range and other specs of the 2024 Chevrolet Suburban Electric. More details are about to be unveiled next year.
Engines and Specs
So, the EV is the biggest change we’ll see on the upcoming SUV. That means most of the other options remain the same. Although the 2024 Chevrolet Suburban is a truck-based vehicle, it won’t share all the engines with the Silverado 1500 truck. The SUV comes with a 5.3-liter V8 drivetrain as the base setup. It can deliver 355 hp and 385 lb-ft of torque. For this kind of vehicle, that is enough. Smaller displacements can’t provide enough power, especially having in mind that the Suburban is a long-wheelbase version of the Tahoe SUV.
Another option for the engine room is a 6.2-liter V8. It is standard for the High Country package. The powerplant delivers 420 hp and 460 pound-feet of torque through a 10-speed automatic transmission. A rear-wheel drive is standard, while AWD comes as the optional configuration.
2024 Chevrolet Suburban Diesel
The third option for the current model is a Duramax diesel. Like for the Silverado truck, it is a 3.0-liter oil burner capable of producing 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. But, the company might drop the turbodiesel configuration in the foreseeable future. The reason is to clean up the emissions. General Motors takes the electric and zero-emission path. Not only that more EVs will be built, but diesel engines are being cut out. Too bad since a lot of buyers already got used to this unit. Still, the Duramax engine is not increasing towing capacity as much as we expected.
2024 Chevrolet Suburban Features and Accessories
The Super Cruise has been added as one of the options for the current Suburban. However, the technology is evolving and the next gen of the system is on the way. General Motors introduced the Ultra Cruise, which is about to debut very soon. We expect the system to be an immediate upgrade of the current services.
The 2024 Chevrolet Suburban offers plenty of options to its buyers. Besides three engine choices, there are also six standard trim levels. Every season, the company introduces a fresh, limited model. That should be in 2024.
The base one is the Fleet and the next step in upgrading the Suburban is the LS package. The LT is slightly more expensive but offers a lot of equipment. For example, there are leather seats, a wireless charger, a large touchscreen and the Bose sound system. The RST makes the SUV look more aggressive with eye-catching exterior addons. If you plan to go off-road, the 2024 Chevy Suburban Z71 is available, although some fans would like to see the ZR2, an even tougher package.
Two premium models are Premier and High Country. However, you will have to spend at least $70,000 to get any of them. The seating capacity drops to seven slots because of the chairs in the middle row. A blind spot monitor is standard. The High Country adds HUD and a 360-degree camera system. The unique grille is unveiling the top package. Also, a 6.2-liter V8 engine is the only drivetrain for this version.
