A subcompact crossover is the best choice for urban commuting and drivers without experience. The mpg rating and agility are the main advantages over bigger, more powerful and more expensive SUVs. Among all the models, we would recommend the all-new 2024 Chevy Trax. This crossover was a best-seller already. Now, after upgrades, it is going to be even more reliable and safer to drive.
There are many similarities between the 2024 Chevrolet Trax and the Trailblazer. Anyway, buyers will have different options at the choice. For example, the Trax is using only a 1.2-liter turbo three-cylinder engine. There are five trim levels for the new model and refreshed color palette. The AWD version is expected to be added later in 2024. For now, a 6-pace transmission sends power only to the front axle. The 2024 YM is already in sales with a base price of $21,500.
2024 Chevy Trax Engine Specs, AWD, MPG
The new model is using the same engine as its closest sibling, the Chevrolet Trailblazer. Under the hood of subcompact crossovers is a 1.2-liter turbo unit with 137 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque. Those are not stunning outputs, but that is more than enough power and twist for the small Trax. A six-speed automatic transmission routes power to the front wheels. The 2024 Chevy Trax AWD might become an option somewhere next year. The gas mileage is one of the strongest sides of the vehicle. It returns 31 mpg combined. Of course, an all-wheel drive will drop the rating by 1 or 2 points. The company offers a 5-year or 60,000-mile warranty on the powertrain.
For now, the 2024 Chevrolet Trax is not using the 1.3-liter I3 engine available for the Trailblazer. It might be another option saved for the first lineup upgrade. Also, the Trax hybrid is not an option for many reasons. The first one is the company’s disinterest is such systems. Chevrolet adds Bolt EV as a small SUV with a zero-emission powertrain instead of just cutting that down.
Models and Interior Options
The base version of the new Trax remains the LS. The highlights of the entry-level package are an 8-inch touchscreen, an updated infotainment system, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, and an active noise cancellation feature. Optionally, you can add rear cross-traffic alert. The RS comes with 18-inch wheels and gloss mirrors. Front row is heated. The steering wheel isn’t, but its flat-bottom design is making the ride sportier. Optional feature for the RS model is a power sunroof.
The 2024 Chevy Trax LT is making things more interesting. Keyless start, 11-inch infotainment screen and machined aluminum wheels are some of the notable upgrades for this one. You can also purchase wireless charging pad, or cruise control. Unfortunately, that won’t be the Super Cruise or Ultra Cruise, but some lighter version. The 2RS is a package with 19-inch rims, keyless open function and heated steering wheel. Trax Activ is the top trim level. Highlights of this one are the black wheels, 8-way power driver seat, and upgraded upholstery.
2024 Chevy Trax Colors
There are six base and one premium colors for the 2024 Chevy Trax. You have to pay $400 for the Cayenne Orange. Other options are also cool – Harvest Bronze, Summit White, Sterling Gray, Blue Glow, Crimson and Mosaic Black. Cacti Green is coming during 2024 for the 1RS and higher grades. Premium sector introduces Nitro Yellow and Fountain Blue colors.
Competition
Although subcompact crossovers are not as popular as slightly larger models, the competition in the class is tough. Toyota C-HR and Honda HR-V are pretty popular nowadays. Ford is thinking of replacing EcoSport, and Jeep might cut the Renegade. Also, some carmakers are turning to electric segment and small SUVs seem to be the perfect entry models. So, we already have the Hyundai Kona, Kia Niro and Chevy Bolt. Soon, Jeep will add Recon EV.
2024 Chevrolet Trax Price
The company already launched the 2024 Chevy Trax and the pricing starts from $21,500. The RS costs $23,200 and the 2RS adds $1,800. Between those two you can find Trax LT, while the Activ is not too much more expensive than the 2RS. With a 1.3-liter unit and an AWD, the MSRP will go up. For now, the Trax seems to be a good purchase compared to rivals and their prices/offers.
