We can say this for any GM vehicle now. The company started the electrification process and every their model will have one EV in the lineup by 2030. Also, the reports from some well-respected magazines are trying to figure out if the full redesign is on the way. Well, the initial plan was that the 2024 GMC Terrain is introducing the new generation, after the facelift in 2021. But, everything was postponed due to the COVID outburst. The redesign was late, and now we are not sure if the 2024 YM is introducing the second series of the small crossover.
So, an update of the interior and exterior should make the 2024 GMC Terrain more competitive. Sales are dropping, which is expected. But, the compact crossover class is the most popular market. GMC was selling around 100k Terrains at its peak, which is far away from the competition. Well, one of the rivals is Chevy Equinox, which is basically the same vehicle.
What was missing in the lineup is a hybrid engine, that is for sure. But, General Motors won’t run into this world. Instead, the company is introducing EVs already. So, the new 2024 GMC Terrain is keeping the lineup, with Denali and AT4 models as the highlights. The level of changes is still unknown. The crossover is at the crossroad – a full redesign or a complete carryover.
Specs and Gas Mileage
The main drivetrain for the 2024 GMC Terrain remains a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-pot mill with 175 hp and 203 lb-ft of torque. The impression is that the crossover is underachieving, especially compared to the main rivals. The gas mileage is also unimpressive. The current vehicle can’t hit 30 mpg on highways, while Ford Escape does 40+ mpg with a hybrid engine. So, big changes are needed. General Motors is definitely preparing something since they are losing pace with leaders in the segment. A nine-speed transmission should be there again, as well as the 4WD as an optional upgrade.
2024 GMC Terrain EV and Hybrid Models
So, the compact crossover definitely needs improvements of gas mileage. It won’t be easy, since the company must take the hybrid way. General Motors is not building such systems and that is the main reason why Toyota and Ford are in a great advantage. The situation is not going to change in the next few seasons. But, the company decided to skip this step and go with complete electrification. You probably know about the Hummer truck and SUV with the GMC badge. Plus, GM also builds Cadillac Lyriq, Chevy Bolt and Silverado truck. The carmaker continues to expand the range, and the 2024 GMC Terrain EV is one of the likely models to show up soon.
One of the main reasons why we believe in this model is the debut of the Chevy Equinox EV. Those two vehicles are closely related. So, it is also likely that the same system will power the 2024 Terrain EV. The battery can produce 210-290 horsepower, depending on the version you pick. Converted to the range, the electric motor can cover 250-300 miles. However, those are estimations and the final numbers will be released soon. There are no reasons to believe that Terrain electric is not bringing the same outputs.
2024 GMC Terrain Best Models: AT4 and Denali
SLE and SLT are budget versions of the crossover and best-sellers thanks to the price. But, if you want more from its vehicle, then GMC knows how to upgrade the ride. For most of their products, those are the luxury Denali package and the AT4 off-road bundle. So, the choice depends on your needs.
The SLE is the most popular trim, mainly because of the price which is below $30,000. Still, we have to say that GMC is a bit more expensive than the competition. Plus, the upgrades will make the price go up. A few highlights of the SLE: 7-inch touchscreen, 6-speaker audio, Wi-Fi hotspot. So, not too impressive. The SLT adds a hands-free liftgate, dual-zone climate control, leather upholstery, and many other upgrades. Definitely, it is a good upgrade you will pay only $4,000.
The 2024 GMC Terrain AT4 is another $2,000 investment. There won’t be so many premium options. Instead, the off-road oriented package adds 4×4 as a standard drive system, skid plates, underbody protection and revisited suspension. Well, practically thinks that will make an off-road ride smoother.
The most impressive trim level is the 2024 Terrain Denali with navigation, Bose audio, wireless charging, HUD, and a blind-spot monitor. Upgraded leather wraps seats. Optional features for this one are ventilated seats, a sunroof, or adaptive cruise control. The redesign might also reshuffle options and make them available. Also, we are monitoring for the AT4 and Denali replacements. AT4x and Denali Ultimate are already available on some vehicles.
