2024 Honda HR-V Hybrid

The all-new subcompact crossover is still pretty interesting to buyers looking for a small and efficient vehicle. The fresh look is something that draws attention. For the first season after the complete upgrade, the 2024 Honda HR-V might add a hybrid engine. But, there are still a few months before the vehicle’s debut. Honda won’t show it too much and there won’t be a need for the heavy camo to draw attention. A hybrid model will look the same as the one with a petrol engine.

The new 2024 Honda HR-V is based on the Civic hatchback, the best-selling car in the US. The crossover inherits the driving habits of the car but offers more space. Now, we expect further upgrades. Not only that HR-V should get some extra options, but also other vehicles are preparing big debuts. For example, the Honda Pilot hybrid is the SUV everyone is waiting to see. Also, we can hear rumors about the Ridgeline truck with the Type R package. But, let’s stick to the subcompact crossover for now.

Why Buy 2024 Honda HR-V? And What Can be Better?

The 2024 Honda HR-V is all-new, and that is the biggest advantage over the competition. But, other companies will soon update their vehicles. Not only the HR-V is fresh, but the look is pretty stylish, outside and inside. Compared to the previous version, the third generation is modernized. If it is not 172 inches long, it would be a true SUV. The new model is also larger than the predecessor, giving more space and comfort. You can be surprised by the level of safety features. Also, the company stepped up in the driver’s aid segment. Honda Sensing is now standard and comes with lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control.

There are still some things that can be better. While some drivers love the size because of the easy maneuvering and the gas mileage, some would like more cargo space. But, in that case, they should look for a larger vehicle, the CR-V for example. There are no engine options for the 2024 Honda HR-V. A 2.0-liter is currently the only powertrain. Yes, we hope to see a hybrid model next year. The company also removed Magic Seat, one of the best features of the previous generation. It makes an already limited cargo room even tighter.

New Engine, Specs and Gas Mileage

A 2.0-liter naturally-aspirated engine is another novelty for the third generation of the small crossover. A four-cylinder engine replaces a 1.8-liter unit. The 2024 Honda HR-V can now deliver 158 hp and 138 lb-ft of torque. For such a small vehicle, the boost from 141 hp and 127 lb-ft is significant. A CVT is paired with a 2.0 engine. This combo makes the new HR-V accelerate 0-60 mph in 9.5 seconds. The previous version did it in 10.1 sec. Not a huge step up, but the acceleration was definitely one of the downsides of the crossover.

All versions of the vehicle are using the front-wheel drive. An AWD is optional. Interesting, engineers couldn’t manage to beat the gas mileage of a 1.8-liter engine. The new 2.0-liter mill returns 26/32 mpg, 2 points worse than the predecessor. Results are the same with the all-wheel drive. The towing capacity and off-road performance are still bad. But, the HR-V is not built to meet those demands.

Definitely, the vehicle needs options under the hood. A choice between FWD and AWD is just not enough. That is just one of many reasons why we hear rumors about the 2024 Honda HR-V hybrid. There are more such configurations available nowadays. Nevertheless, hybrids are not so spread in the subcompact class. Companies rather build EVs instead. Urban EV is one of the concepts that could underpin a future model in this segment. Since it won’t happen so soon, in the meantime, the HR-V should keep fans on alert. We believe that Honda can deliver a competitive system like they did with the CR-V. It is still one of the best crossovers when it comes to gas mileage.

Options and Prices

The upcoming novelties will bring new prices, which will depend on the type of drivetrain and technology the carmaker will pack with them. The rest of the lineup stays the same. The base model is the 2024 Honda HR-V LX. Highlights of this grade are 17-inch wheels, push-button start, a 7-inch screen and 4 USB ports. The MSRP of the entry-level model is $23,800. The mid-range trim is Sport, priced $2,100 above the LX. For that money, you are getting 18-inch black alloy wheels, a remote start, keyless entry, and heated front seats. Exterior and interior accents, such as a black grille, chromed exhaust tips, or tinted windows, make the appearance sportier. The EX-L is the top-of-the-range package. Sunroof, ambient lighting, dual-zone automatic climate, leather seats, and wireless charger are just a few things you are getting with this $27,900 priced model. An AWD is optional all across the lineup and costs $1,500.
