The next-gen SUV will be called the 2024 Lexus GX 550. It replaces the GX460 and the first speculations are already here. Only the trademark request was enough. However, we know some things that should change for the mid-size premium SUV. A big V8 engine is pretty thirsty and inefficient. So, a smaller six-cylinder unit should fix issues. Nevertheless, fans will have to wait a few months until the all-new GX shows up and the company announces a complete specs sheet.
The new engine is definitely a highlight, but just one of many. Fresh styling is also on the way. The 2024 Lexus GX 550 won’t get a 5.5-liter mill for sure.

So, now we can only think about the new drivetrain for the 2024 Lexus GX 550. A 4.6-liter V8 is definitely not an option anymore. In some markets, you can find a diesel, but the US model doesn’t feature an oil burner. So, a smaller block is replacing a V8. But, the displacement is still unknown. Toyota and Lexus are using a new system – the I Force setup. It shows well under the hood of the LX. A bit downpowered, it can serve as the drivetrain for the mid-size GX.
On the other hand, the RX is coming out with a turbocharged four-cylinder with enough power. But, downgrading from a V8 to four cylinders would make drivers mad. This won’t happen, that is for sure. The second generation of the mid-size SUV was introduced in 2009 and 15 years in the market is a long period of time. Updates and facelifts were refreshing the GX, but the new GX 550 will be the most serious change. The company will announce details as soon as they obtain trademark rights. In the past few occasions, the production of such products started pretty quickly. Public expect to see the SUV in 2024.
The price will climb compared to the current version, that is for sure. But, we can’t be more precise. The MSRP is going to depend on the drivetrain and hybrid system, trim levels, and the size.
