The largest Subaru SUV is in sale for four years and it was time for the mid-cycle update. The company launches the redesign on the 2023 YM. Both the exterior and interior are refreshed. However, the 2024 Subaru Ascent will also bring a big dose of changes.
For example, we want to see the 2024 Subaru Ascent Wilderness. That is the #1 wish. Well, the new Onyx edition is not bad at all. Base, Premium, Limited and Touring remain other grades. Of course, AWD is standard, as well as a flat-four engine, better known as the Boxer. The company is considering the hybrid configuration. Thanks to the new partnership with Toyota, Subaru is a step closer to the completion of this task.
2024 Subaru Ascent Redesign, Interior, Seating Capacity
The 2024 Subaru Ascent remains the biggest SUV in the lineup. It can accommodate eight persons, although all trim levels are also offering a 7-seat layout. On the top of the line Touring model, that is the standard option. The company did a lot of things on the new Ascent. The exterior introduces a fresh styling, while the interior becomes more comfortable, safer and modern. So, the SUV offers all the drivers need, especially those with big families.
The third row is not too cozy. You still can seat children back there. In some configurations, captain’s chairs in the middle row are available. Also, the company installs an improved infotainment system. Premium leather makes a ride more comfortable at the highest trim levels. Cargo space is generous compared to other models. With all seats up, the SUV offers nearly 18 cu.ft., while with second and third rows down, it increases to 86.5 cubic feet.
Boxer Engine Specs
Under the bonnet of the 2024 Subaru Ascent is a turbocharged flat-four engine. The Boxer plant is ready to crack 260 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. It might be impressive for a 2.4-liter displacement, but most mid-size SUVs can deliver even more power. Nevertheless, the Ascent makes it up with unique handling and maneuvering. Lower center of gravity and all-wheel drive are synonyms for all Subaru vehicles. That is something that makes them different. The SUV returns 21-27 mpg (city/highway). The maximum towing capacity is 5,000 lbs, and the transmission is a CVT.
2024 Subaru Ascent Hybrid
It is obvious that the Boxer engine needs an alternative. It can be good, but some buyers will always look for some kind of choice. The 2024 Subaru Ascent Hybrid is one of the most logical choices for many reasons. First of all, the entire industry is leaning towards electric power sources with zero emissions. Subaru entered the game with the Solterra concept. But, the biggest SUV should get a hybrid engine first. Well, it can’t be the one we see on smaller crossovers.
So, there is a big challenge for engineers. That is why the company entered a partnership with Toyota, the leading manufacturer in this realm. Rav4 is one of the most efficient crossovers with 40+ mpg, while there is no better three-row SUV than Highlander when it comes to gas mileage. Some of the technology will be shared with Subaru and the Japanese carmaker will use it for the Ascent SUV.
2024 Subaru Ascent Wilderness
Subaru decided to exploit the potential of its 4×4 drive and build a mighty off-road package. The Wilderness model debuted on the Forester crossover SUV. After a huge success, we’ll see the expansion of the lineup. The 2024 Subaru Ascent Wilderness is going to be one of the top choices for off-road adventures.
The vehicle comes with a symmetrical AWD with exceptional traction. The ground clearance is at 8.7 inches, but the new suspension could increase the gap between the body and the surface. Subaru also introduced the X-Mode with the selection of two different setups. Gear ratios are revisited. Of course, all-terrain tires are there, as well as a water-resistant interior material.
Not only that the drive is improved, but designers also revisited the body. Still, it is all about the performance, so all the new parts are there to enhance the ride and styling. Black alloy wheels are definitely an eye-catching feature. Hood decals, black trims, unique colors, and Wilderness logos are other things you will notice on this special build.
The new SUV costs $34,000 in the Base grade. Premium package adds $2,500 and adds another $1,500 if you want captain’s chairs in the middle row. For the Limited edition, the price for 8- and 7-seat configurations is the same – $41,500. Base Onyx is slightly cheaper, but it can cost $47,000 if you combine it with the Limited package. The 2024 Subaru Ascent Touring is the most exclusive version. The price is just under $50,000 and the highlights of this model are ambient lighting, power outlet, ventilated front seats, and premium leather upholstery. Harman-Kardon audio comes with 14 speakers.
