2024 VW Atlas

The mid-size SUV was recently updated, so there won’t be big changes until the next big redesign, scheduled for 2025 or 2026. Meanwhile, the 2024 VW Atlas remains a reliable and durable German vehicle with plenty of additional options. The Atlas Cross Sport is a smaller version of the SUV, more agile and fuel-efficient. But, it is a five-seater, while the standard model is offering three rows.

Anyway, the SUV comes with many options to build a perfect vehicle. Two grades are available SE and SEL. From there, you can add one of the optional packages to each class. Then, there are two engines for the mid-size SUV, a four-cylinder and a V6. A hybrid unit is not in the plans for 2024. Also, fans ask about the Atlas R. Its European sibling, Touareg is coming out in this grade. It is unlikely that US buyers will see this one.

On the other hand, the 2024 VW Atlas Cross Sport is a compact SUV. However, it also offers the same engines, but a more attractive look. It is also less expensive, but the packages are the same.

2024 VW Atlas Specs

A 2.0-liter turbo engine can produce 235 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. That is not enough for a seven-seater. But, the company sticks to its plans and the four-cylinder unit is the reason why the base price is around $35,000. An 8-speed automatic transmission sends power to the front wheels. You can opt for an all-wheel drive. Nevertheless, the 2024 VW Atlas also comes with driving modes, which can boost the performance or the fuel economy, depending on your needs and driving style.

A 3.6-liter V6 is a more suitable powertrain for a mid-size three-row SUV. This one cracks 276 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque. Outputs are the same for Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport. The towing capacity gets a significant boost, while it won’t cost you too much when it comes to fuel consumption. A V6 returns 18/24 mpg, compared to the 21/24 mpg of the turbo-four unit. Again, an AWD is optional.

Grades and Features

The new 2024 VW Atlas will continue to use the same trim levels as its predecessors. The SE is the entry-level grade. Some of the highlights of the package are the LED lamps, 18-inch wheels, power-adjustable driver’s bucket, and simulated leather. A 6.5-inch screen looks small in this spacious SUV. Also, the base sound system is mediocre. If you add the Technology bundle, the SUV becomes way more interesting. Larger wheels are there, as well as an 8-inch screen. Dual-zone climate control is automatic. Volkswagen also adds parking sensors, a wireless charger, and a hands-free tailgate. The most important – a V6 becomes an optional upgrade.

The SEL comes with the adaptive front lighting, a panoramic sunroof, automatic beams, heated seats and steering wheel. Navigation is standard and the driver’s bucket gets memory settings. The R-Line is actually the R package, but without a performance-tuned engine under the bonnet. The styling is sportier thanks to exterior details, black alloy wheels, and darkened interior accents. The top grade is the SEL with R-Line and Premium bundles. A V6 is standard with an AWD, as well as leather upholstery, 21-inch wheels, heated and ventilated seats, Fender audio, park assist, and many more.

2024 VW Atlas vs Atlas Cross Sport

The main difference between the two SUVs is in the size. The Atlas Cross Sport is a newer model, 5 inches shorter than the big rig. Also, the company revisited the rear end to create a sportier tail. Definitely, the Cross Sport looks cool, but it lacks the interior space the standard 7-seater is offering. However, the 2024 Atlas is not offering a two-tone interior theme. The Cross Sport is lighter, but you won’t gain extra miles for fuel economy. In the future, those vehicles should get a hybrid configuration and the MPG rating will change for the better.

2024 VW Atlas Prices

The base SUV costs just under $36,000. You can save nearly $1,000 if you decide to buy the Cross Sport. Technology package is a $4k upgrade. The price for the SEL model starts from $46,000. The R-Line is $4k and the Premium is another $4k. Captain’s chairs in the middle row will cost you only $700.

Future Changes

The 2024 VW Atlas comes unchanged. But, the following model is going to bring a lot of fun. First of all, it is time for a big redesign. Besides the fresh styling, outside and inside, the company will add more options for the engine room. We all expect to see a hybrid setup. One of the upgrades is also the Atlas R. Well, it would be more suitable for the Cross Sport version, thanks to its more attractive look. Anyway, any upgrade of this type is worth of mention. Fans will have to wait for a couple of seasons before the first info leaks and test mules show up.
