The Grand Cherokee is not the most powerful SUV in the market anymore. The FCA added the Hellcat engine to the Dodge Durango lineup, and there the powertrain delivers 710 hp, 3 more than for the Jeep‘s vehicle. But, the GC is still the best-seller in the mid-size segment. And, it was before the company added the three-row model. The 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L is coming back, as well as the Trackhawk model. Minor changes will update interior and exterior. One of the hottest topics is the plug-in hybrid. The 4xe configuration we see on the Jeep Wrangler would fit perfectly to the Grand Cherokee’s engine room.
The SUV is not a best seller without reasons. In a matter of fact, there are plenty of advantages and keys to its success. The 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee needs to improve the offer, since the competition is becoming bigger and more attractive. Toyota Highlander is one of the main rivals, as well as Chevy Traverse. Plus, plenty of other SUVs with three rows. Seating capacity makes those perfect transportation for family trips. Now, the Grand Cherokee can accommodate up to seven persons as well. Flagship Trackhawk is not available with three rows, but only two.
2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee Engines and Specs
The entry-level version of the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee is getting power from the same V6 unit. It is a kind of standard for such a vehicle. Some rivals are using a turbocharged four-pot, with similar power outputs, but the driving impression is not the same. A six-banger is definitely a better option, also because of the towing capacity. For the Grand Cherokee, a 3.6-liter Pentastar drivetrain can deliver 295 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. Those numbers are making the SUV very competitive against all rivals.
But, if you want to make things more serious, there is a pair of V8 mills that raise the performance to another level. A 5.7-liter powerplant can burst 360 hp and 390 lb-ft. Compared to a smaller block, a 4WD is standard. Both drivetrains are using an eight-speed transmission. It sends power to rear wheels from V6. Another V8 is a mighty 6.4-liter displacement with 475 hp and 470 lb-ft. You know it as the SRT model, but it will be renamed to Trackhawk. Other one using that name will get the “Hellcat” suffix which indicates what engine it will use. Yes, that is the mighty 6.2-liter mill that puts out 707 horsepower. Until this season, it was the most potent configuration. Now, the same engine delivers 710 hp for the Dodge Durango.
2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee Exterior and Interior
Laredo is the base package for the Grand Cherokee. The company is going to keep it in 2023. Reshuffling of the exterior and interior options is something we expect from the new SUV. Still, 17-inch wheels will be there, as well as heated side mirrors, large touchscreen display, and by 2023, FCA is going to develop a next-gen version of the Uconnect infotainment system. All their vehicles are going to feature this package and the smallest screen is going to be at least 8-inch wide. Laredo X is adding a few advanced accessories, such as navigation, heated seats, and remote start.
Moving up the trim level ladder, we find the Limited model as the mid-range offer. The SUV is getting leather seats, power sunroof, and the Limited X adds gloss black exterior details. A set of 18-inch wheels is hard to miss. If you plan to use the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee off the road, then the Trailhawk is the best model. The 4×4 system features the Selec-Terrain package with Quadra-Trac 4WD and unique air suspension.
That is not all. From there, if you want more, you can select either performance or premium versions. Overland comes with bi-xenon lights, dual-zone sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, wireless charging, navigation… Summit is the top of the range model with premium audio and advanced safety options. Performance models use powerful mills. There will be two Trackhawk packages – the first one with a 6.4-liter engine, ex-SRT, and the Trackhawk Hellcat, with a 707 hp-rated 6.2-liter supercharged mill. Of course, there is plenty of other equipment available with those two models.
Release Date and Price
The new 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee is coming out in the last quarter of 2022. Jeep is not in the rush. The release date will heavily depend on the decision related to the plug-in hybrid drivetrain. Yes, the Grand Cherokee is the flagship model, but there are a lot of other vehicles that require attention. The L version adds a cool third-row option. But, Jeep also launched the Wagoneer full-size SUV. With so many options under the hood and packages, the price can be anywhere between $33,000 and $90,000.
