Top 15 Seven-Seater SUVs for 2022-2023

Seven-seater SUVs will need a bit of extra investment, but you are getting more power and space. Compact crossovers are the most popular vehicles in this segment because of its price. But, the mid-size three-row tier is one of the hottest classes in the market. On the other hand, bigger rigs add even more power and increase safety. That is all some drivers will ask from its ride.

These kinds of vehicles are the best for larger families. If you need space for cargo, you can always fold seats. Practicality is another key in this chain. Here are the best models which will be available in the market in the next couple of years.

2022 Lexus GX 460

Lexus is Toyota’s premium branch and this manufacturer is providing quite a lineup when it comes to seven-seaters. We expect the most from the 2022 Lexus GX 460, although the RX is the best-selling model and the LX could launch the new generation. The GX is body-on-frame SUV with excellent off-road skills. On the other hand, the luxury model is not as expensive as the LX, but offers a lot more than the RX.

The 2022 Lexus GX 460 is going to be redesigned. Outside the US, you can find this SUV as the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. Spy photos of this model make us believe the GX is also coming with quite a lot changes. The third row is comfortable, but if you need more room, the LX is definitely a better solution. It is time for the redesign, so the 2022-2023 Lexus GX is going to be one of the hottest rides in the family.

2022 Mazda CX-9

The CX-9 is the only three-row by Mazda. The CX-7 and CX-8 are potential new arrivals, but these won’t be as popular as the older brother. The 2022 Mazda CX-9 is in its second generation, which was launched in 2016. Now, the vehicle might be redesigned. However, we won’t wait for too long, since CX-3 and CX-5 are new and the only ‘old’ vehicle is the seven-seater.

The downside of the SUV might be its powertrain. The SkyActiv technology made a blast when it arrived, but a 2.5-liter engine is good for only 250 horsepower. Most mid-size SUVs are throwing closer to 300 ponies. Outside the US, the company is preparing a new unit, but the turbodiesel is not arriving to the major stage. The 2022 Mazda CX-9 is not a premium model, but the upscale materials and technology will make it more expensive than its rivals.

2022 Cadillac XT6

Escalade is the flagship model and other SUVs can’t reach its popularity. But, the 2022 Cadillac XT6 is definitely a model to talk about. Caddie didn’t make a strong impression at its first appearance. Now, it is time for improvements, and one of the rumors are mentioning XT6-V version with a twin-turbo engine and extra power. This one should be a rival to Lincoln Aviator and its 494-hp rated plug-in hybrid.

The 2022 Cadillac XT6 Sport is our recommendation until the new version arrives. Leather seats are improving comfort, blind-spot monitor safety, and navigation and premium audio infotainment system. On the other hand, there is only a single V6 engine and for the premium class, 310 hp is not spectacular. We won’t take turbo-four seriously, since GM is using this mill for smaller and non-luxury crossovers. The XT6 will be available for under $50,000.

2022 Toyota Highlander

This wouldn’t be a legit list without the 2022 Toyota Highlander. The Japanese company was the first one to deliver a seven-seater with a hybrid unit. Now, when rivals started to catch up, a new version is out. Toyota sacrificed power to gain better gas mileage. Now, the Highlander can return 35 mpg by using a four-cylinder engine mated to electric batteries. That is not all, since in the next few years Toyota might upgrade the system to the plug-in hybrid, called Prime.

Behind the third row, there are 16 cubic feet of cargo space. The legroom is not too generous though. Most owners would like more. If you don’t need it, slide the middle row and provide more space for occupants there. With all seats folded, the 2022 Toyota Highlander will offer up to 84.5 cu.ft. The base price is $35,000 and high-end models will reach $50,000. One of the hot rumors is the availability of TRD Pro model. Still, this is not so likely to happen next season.

2022 Ford Explorer

It is a tough battle between the 2022 Ford Explorer and Navigator. The large SUV is definitely one of the best in its class. However, the mid-size three-row model is under the spotlight now with the hybrid configuration. A V6 is enhanced, produces extra power and saves some fuel. Of course, it will cost you a bit more, but the Explorer Hybrid is the vehicle of the future. Ford is already taking the next step by delivering the EV model – Mach E.

Under the hood of a seven-seater is a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-pot can make 310 horsepower. If you choose a hybrid, then the SUV can do 318 hp and 322 lb-ft of torque. The gas mileage reaches 28 mpg combined, while the AWD is rated at 27 miles per gallon. Ford also launched a special PHEV setup for the Lincoln Aviator, where the engine and electric battery can do nearly 500 horsepower.

2022 Hyundai Palisade

The 2022 Hyundai Palisade is the newest member of the lineup. The Korean company is going strong into the market. The lineup is revisited and the Palisade is a successor of the old Santa Fe. This nameplate is now a mid-size two-row SUV. Hyundai is now even in the luxury market with the premium Genesis brand. The Palisade draws the attention as the fresh model and the first impressions are very positive.

This brings high expectations. The next version needs to offer some kinds of upgrades. The 2022 Hyundai Palisade might be out with a hybrid unit, a performance N version, or even an off-road package. Four trim levels are available. The SE is the base one and it starts at $32,500. The SEL adds features worth $2,600 and Limited is not under $46,500. The Calligraphy is just under $50,000. The only engine for the seven-seater is a 3.8-liter Lambda V6.

2022 Infiniti QX60

The 2022 Infiniti QX60 will be an all-new SUV based on the Monograph concept. This platform was presented on the full-size QX80, but the mid-size seven-seater will be the first one to wear a new styling language. Under the bonnet of the QX60 is a V6 engine. Nissan, owner of the Infiniti, might enhance outputs with a more powerful unit, probably twin-turbo V6 with about 400 horsepower.

One of the disappointments is the lack of hybrid units. On the other hand, the ProPilot assistance gets to a higher level of autonomous drive. Navigation is also available at higher trim levels. At least, large touchscreen displays are at the center of the dashboard. The base price will make the SUV very attractive, being under $45,000. Still, the high-end Autograph version, with extra equipment will be priced above $60,000.

2022 Kia Telluride

Like the Hyundai, another Korean carmaker launched an all-new mid-size three-row SUV. The 2022 Kia Telluride is powered by a 3.8-liter V6 and the engine delivers 262 hp and 290 lb-ft of torque. Towing capacity is 5,000 pounds and the cargo space provides 87 cubic-feet. The SUV is available in LX, S, EX and SX trim levels. The mid-size SUV is a very good value with the base price of $32,000.

The entry-level model is there with Apple CarPlay and a blind-spot monitor. The center of the infotainment system is an eight-speed display. The S package adds a power sunroof and larger wheels. You will need this one to get a seven-seat 2022 Telluride. Again, it is an optional feature. The EX already brings premium features, such as leather upholstery, ventilated seats, 10-inch touchscreen, hands-free tailgate. Top of the line model uses LED headlights, dual sunroofs, and premium sound system.

2022 Honda Pilot

The redesign of the 2022 Honda Pilot could make the SUV popular again. Well, the seven-seater is still one of the best-sellers, but when the new generation arrived in 2015, that was a blast. Now, the expectations are similar from the upcoming Pilot. With seven years in the market, the update is required to stay in touch with the competition.

One of the potential upgrades might happen under the hood. Some while ago, spy photographers caught the test mule with a potential plug-in hybrid version. Honda is delivering a hybrid setup on its premium Acura models. But, the seven-seater is still not available with such a configuration. Fans believe the PHEV model was planned for this season, but the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the premiere. We will have to wait a bit more to see if this comes true. Anyway, redesign is very likely.

2022 Lincoln Aviator

We already mentioned it. The 2022 Lincoln Aviator is now under the spotlight because of its mighty PHEV configuration. That is something Navigator is missing. The Aviator succeeded the MKT model and immediately drew a lot of attention. Ford is not stopping there, but delivers a mighty Grand Touring version with 494 horsepower. Engineers combined a twin-turbo V6 engine with an electric battery to get such high output. Do not expect improvement in the gas mileage compared to the standard model, but nearly 200 hp of extra power won’t cost you a mile.

Lincoln vehicles are famous for its Black Label trim levels. This is the premium package with the most advanced technology. The price of the 2022 Lincoln Aviator Black Label is at the same level as for the Grand Touring PHEV. But, you can combine these two and get the powerful and luxurious ride that will cost around $90,000.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee

It is now the second most powerful SUV in the market. Hellcat engine is not exclusively offered with the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee anymore. Now, Dodge Durango beats 707 hp with 710 ponies. On the other hand, the Grand Cherokee finally got the third row, becoming a seven-seater after a long time. We expected to see this configuration available in 2019, but the company had other plans. Surprisingly, especially now when the Wagoneer is back again with three rows of seats.

There are other changes on the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee as well. First, the SRT model will be renamed to the Trackhawk, while the existing Trackhawk is becoming Trackhawk Hellcat. The SRT badge is available only for Dodge owners. Plus, the question is if the Grand Cherokee is going to be renamed as well. The company is facing suspension of the nameplate because of the name confliction with American natives representatives.

2022 Nissan Armada

Armada is the largest SUV by Nissan. Like the premium Infiniti lineup, this model will receive an update in foreseeable future. Well, basically, this is an eight-seater, but the company will make it a seven-spot SUV if you select a few premium options, including captain’s chairs in the middle row. Still, this feature is not available in each configuration, so getting it will cost a bit. But, the 2022 Nissan Armada will become better.

A big question is if a 5.6-liter V8 is staying under the hood after the redesign. We heard the Japanese company is developing a turbo-six engine, which can debut on the next-gen 370Z sports car. With 400 hp under the hood, the vehicle is also going to be renamed to 400Z. This is the same amount of output the V8 is delivering. It won’t affect the price, and the new 2022 Nissan Armada will be available somewhere between $50,000 and $55,000.

2022 Subaru Ascent

The launching of the Ascent SUV made Subaru thinking about a larger displacement. A six-cylinder engine would be a great addition, but we don’t know too many details about its development. On the other hand, four-cylinder units are well known for their design and low gravity position. Turbocharged 2.4-liter flat-four unit is good for 260 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. We don’t need to mention that all-wheel drive is standard. Well, Subaru is famous for its technology that enhances driving impression.

Even with an AWD, the price is not excessive. You will find the base 2022 Subaru Ascent under $32,500. The upscale drive would cost you at least $2,000 when buying some other mid-size SUV. Still, many fans find the lack of additional options, such as V6 or a hybrid setup, a downside. Plus, the third row is a bit tight. Well, designers should use 197 inches of a length better on the upcoming SUV.

2022 BMW X7

Again, we have a new model in our list. Some say it is not proven yet, but the way the X7 entered the market is spectacular. Well, we always expect that from the Bavarian carmaker. The 2022 BMW X7 is an upgrade compared to the X5 SUV. On the other hand, it is just a matter of time when will model with coupe chassis join the lineup. Well, a kind of famous M version is already there.

The base price is very high, especially having in mind that you are getting a six-cylinder engine with 335 horsepower. Still, the situation gets better if you invest in the M50i version and V8. But, you need a $20k push. In this case, a 4.4-liter displacement is good for 525 horsepower. Instead of the X7M, you will find XB7, developed in cooperation with Alpina. If we have to compare this one to the rivals, that is something like the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63. Well, the prices are close, deeply into six-digit waters.

2022 Range Rover

The 2022 Range Rover is the most expensive model on this list. You will need more than $200,000 to get all the features coming with the SVAutobiography package. Nevertheless, the base version is somehow acceptable, having in mind you are buying a full-size luxury SUV. On the other hand, Brits have to spice it up and the starting MSRP is above the most rivals.

The SUV offers plenty of options, including a six-cylinder unit, diesel power, mighty V8, and the hybrid configuration. All these engines are the centerpiece of their own package / trim level. The new version will be all-new. At least spy photos suggest so. Sadly, we can’t see too much, but a heavy camo is hiding something big. Only chiefs and developers know what, since our intels can’s provide those details.
