Future Full-Size SUV for 2022 and 2023

Full-size SUVs will offer everything a big family needs. If you are going on a long trip, again, these vehicles are no mistake. While mid-size models can bring most things like big rigs, sometimes buyers need optional upgrades to match the offer. So, the full-size segment is offering enough space, power, and safety.

First of all, these rigs are built on body-on-frame platforms, making them more rigid. SUVs will come with excellent driving skills, especially for tough terrains. Nevertheless, special upgrades for some of the models from this list are going to make them even tougher. All SUVs we can call full-size are coming with three rows of seats, with the seating configuration between seven and nine (by default).

We won’t analyze premium market. Stay tuned, the new review will be here in no time.

2022 Chevy Tahoe (All-New)

The new generation of full-size SUVs by General Motors is here. The company made a big move, and the 2022 Chevy Tahoe will be the second edition of the next-gen SUV, that will be launched as 2021 YM. Well, most things about this vehicle we already know. For example, new styling comes with the upcoming generation. Drivetrain modifications will include a diesel unit. A 3.0-liter turbodiesel can produce 277 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque. This engine could make Tahoe and its sibling leaders in towing capacity.

Still, engineers and designers didn’t stop there. The 2022 Chevy Tahoe will also use independent rear suspension. Finally! General Motors is ten years behind its archrival. Ford Expedition was taking advantage of this setup. But now, when the solid axle is in the books, Chevrolet Tahoe can catch up with its biggest competitor.

You can check HERE the full review and all changes on the next-gen Tahoe.

2022 Chevy Suburban (Extended Version of Tahoe)

The 2022 Chevy Suburban brings pretty much all the same as Tahoe. There is a diesel engine with more torque and IRS. Also, buyers will find a different petrol configuration. A couple of V8 units are delivering 355 and 420 hp. The main difference is in the size of the cabin. Suburban is larger. The new model will be 225 inches long, with the 134-inch wheelbase. The total cargo space of the SUV is 123 cubic feet. That is 1.3 cu.ft. more than the outgoing generation can store.

2022 Chevy Suburban

The new 2022 Chevrolet Suburban will keep an eight-seat layout as the base configuration. Nevertheless, you can cut down one spot if you pick captain’s chairs instead of the bench in the middle row. Also, the seating capacity can climb to nine with a split-bench front seat option. While Tahoe sees the competition in Ford Expedition, Suburban will face Expedition Max, as well as Grand Wagoneer if Jeep enters the full-size market.

2023 Ford Expedition (Facelift)

Since we already mentioned it, let’s see what’s new for Ford’s largest SUV. The Expedition is now a legendary model. The fourth-generation arrived a couple of years ago and in the next couple of years, the first update will happen. We believe the Blue Oval manufacturer is not going to rush with it. The 2023 Ford Expedition facelift will be the response to new generations of GM SUVs.

2023 Ford Expedition

One of the new things we could see on the upcoming big rig is a new engine. The carmaker launched a 7.3-liter V8 and it is part of the Super Duty truck segment only. However, experts are sure the Ford is not going to keep the new mill limited only to this class. The facelift of the 2023 Ford Expedition is a great chance to introduce it to the full-size SUV market. The engine is delivering 430 hp and 475 lb-ft, which is slightly worse than the current twin-turbo V6 setup (450 hp and 510 lb-ft).

2022 Ford Excursion (Full-Size SUVs Comeback)

Expedition might not be the biggest SUV in the lineup for too long from now. Since the segment is growing, and we are seeing new sub-categories every season, the comeback of the SUV based on the heavy-duty truck is not impossible. Excursion used to be the biggest vehicle in the class and it seems Ford is considering its comeback. The SUV would take the position above Expedition and the debut might happen next season. Still, the production won’t start so soon and the vehicle is going to arrive as 2022 Ford Excursion, or even 2023 YM.

This is how the old Ford Excursion looked like

There are a few reasons why we believe this could happen. The first one is already mentioned – expansion of the SUV lineup. Also, the 2022 Ford Excursion would be based again on the F-250 Super Duty truck, which entered the new generation recently. A 7.3-liter V8 is a suitable engine for such a vehicle. Ford would take the full-size SUVs market to another level. Downsides are exaggerated fuel consumption and the high starting price. The new 2022 Excursion is not going to cost under $60,000.

2022 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer (Jeep’s Three-Row Full-Size SUVs)

Speaking of comebacks, there is another vehicle in the mix. The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer will take the position as the largest SUV by the FCA. This lineup was discontinued nearly three decades ago and the US carmaker will use it for the new lineup. So, another comeback rumors. However, the difference between Ford Excursion and the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer is that FCA confirmed the three-row SUV. On the other side, there are no details. Understandable, since there is enough time before the full-size SUVs are going to debut. Optimistic predictions say it could be here even in 2021.

The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer will be packed with 5.7 and 6.4 engines. Both of them are promising a lot of power. One of the dilemmas is the Trackhawk edition with the Hellcat engine. In this case, the big rig would gain an elusive advantage over the competition with a 707 horsepower rating. The 2022 Grand Wagoneer will be an extended version of the base model, something like Suburban and Expedition Max. After the huge success with Grand Cherokee, the entire industry believe it is just a matter of time when will Jeep launch the full-size model.

2022 Nissan Armada (New Model)

Not only American carmakers are producing full-size SUVs. Japanese giants are also there. We start with the 2022 Nissan Armada, which should bring the new generation. The carmaker is on pause this season. It turned out to be a smart move because the COVID-19 outburst wasted the automotive season. Most premieres are canceled and delayed. Nissan doesn’t have such problems since the company planned a raid for 2021. Nevertheless, they won’t do it in the initial volume.

Monograph concept could underpin both 2021 Infiniti QX80 and 2022 Nissan Armada

The 2022 Nissan Armada will be the new model, probably based on the Monograph concept. The same platform is underpinning Infiniti QX80, which will arrive before the non-premium sibling. The full-size SUV is debuting with a new look and probably an old engine. A 5.6-liter V8 is reliable and powerful, but also thirsty and aging. Diesel is not an option for the new 2022 Armada.

Before Armada hits the market, we will see the new Infiniti QX80.

2023 Toyota Sequoia (New Engine for Third Generation)

Toyota must do something with its full-size class. Sales are poor and they have two big rigs with a Toyota badge and two premium SUVs. Sequoia is old. Even the TRD Pro package is not going to hide it. So, the updated styling is the first thing designers have to offer. Not only outside but also inside the cabin. We can’t decide where the changes are more urgent. If this doesn’t happen, the 2023 Toyota Sequoia has nothing to do in the market against modern rivals.

2023 Toyota Sequoia

The new generation is on the way. We found a couple of sources telling this is going to happen in 2023. The new Sequoia is going to debut after Tundra and 4Runner. Even the fresh design could be in the shadow of the I-Force Max engine. Toyota is finally replacing an old and sturdy V8 powerplant. A twin-turbo V6 is taking the place under the hood, and soon we will have the complete specs sheet of the more efficient unit. (Source: TFL Truck)

2022 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL (Full-size SUVs Available With Diesel Engine)

General Motors has its twins. The 2022 GMC Yukon is mechanically the same vehicle as Tahoe and its XL version is a pair to 2022 Chevrolet Suburban. So, the changes are the same for the GMC vehicle. However, the company is still using the nameplate. Also, this branch comes with more elegant styling, both outside and inside.

2022 GMC Yukon Denali

There are a few interesting versions of the 2022 GMC Yukon. Besides the base setup, buyers will find the extended XL model. This is a similar offer to Suburban, Ford Expedition Max, and the upcoming Jeep Grand Wagoneer. If you want an off-road specialist, the AT4 package brings special shocks, suspension, and tires. Of course, the SUV is lifted to prevent damages under the body. On the other hand, if buyers require more posh features, then Denali model is the right choice. It makes the 2022 Yukon a premium SUV with the price close to Cadillac Escalade or Mercedes GLS.
