2021 Cadillac XT5 hybrid

When Cadillac launched the new XT5, the company started to raise. It was back in 2016. Now, the new version for 2020 was updated and there is no need for changes in the 2021 season. If you want to get an all-new version of the premium crossover, you will have to wait until 2022 for the new generation. The company confirmed that 2021 Cadillac XT5 changes are not the priority.

Instead, the company will focus on other models. We already saw the extension of the lineup to smaller and larger vehicles. Whatsoever, the XT5 will also need some significant upgrades if it wants to keep good sales records. One of them is one the way – the redesign and infotainment update. The other one includes a hybrid engine. Well, this should be the top priority for the next-gen crossover, no matter if it arrives in 2022 or 2023.

2021 Cadillac XT5 Trim Levels

Since there are no changes for the 2021 Cadillac XT5, we know what to expect from the luxury crossover. It is full of premium features already and the styling of GM’s brand is drawing attention. Plus, the interior is elegant, safe, and comfortable. What’s more, the latest update for the new season added another drivetrain option, so the XT5 is going to be fun to drive.

The company changed trim levels for 2020 MY. However, not all of them are already available. Cadillac made top versions available first. These are Premium Luxury and the all-new XT5 Sport. Well, the 2021 Cadillac XT5 will be available in its base form at a much more affordable price.

18-inch wheels, Bose audio, satellite radio, rear-view camera, and park assist are available right from the start. The entry-level trim also comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay features.

Luxury, Premium Luxury, Platinum

The luxury trim level was the mid-range, offering for the XT5. However, the company replaced it with the Premium Luxury model for 2020. Ultra-view sunroof and heated seats become standard. Furthermore, buyers of this version are getting leather upholstery, memory package, and heated outside mirrors. Safety is boosted with the Driver Awareness Package. Here, you will get forward collision alert with sensors that detect distance, lane keeps assist with integrated lane departure warning, as well as the forward automatic braking.

Now, the 2021 Cadillac XT5 Premium Luxury is going to offer all of these features. Equipment from the previous version is now available for the XT5 sport model. It improves the audio system with a total of 14 speakers and notable visual updates for the exterior. Black accents and 20-inch wheels will make you easily recognize this version. The performance will get a boost from the new suspension system.

Platinum crossover is coming with the high-end features, such as hands-free liftgate or head-up display. We will see what will the new model bring in 2022-2023 and if this trim level appears for the 2021 season.

2021 Cadillac XT5 Engines

Under the hood of the 2021 Cadillac XT5 remains a 3.6-liter V6 powerplant. It was a surprise why the company is going out only with this huge unit, without a smaller alternative. However, now, there is a turbo-four available for the premium crossover.

Buyers have a choice. A V6 brings 310 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. It is one of the most powerful units in the class and there is no need for a revisit. So, a 3.6-l displacement is a sure bet. It pairs a nine-speed automatic transmission that sends power to front wheels. Another solution is an all-wheel drive, which boosts traction, but consumes more fuel.

The new model for the 2020 season is using a 2.0-liter turbocharged drivetrain. In this case, the power output drops to 240 hp, while the fuel economy gains a huge boost. The same transmission is offering FWD and AWD drives. It is up to buyers which form will choose.

2021 Cadillac XT5 Hybrid and Diesel

The first one is a more likely option, although the GM already offers a turbodiesel unit for non-premium Chevy Equinox. Still, these types of drivetrains will slowly become history. Hybrids are the future. The 2021 Cadillac XT5 is not getting one, though, but the next-gen model can’t go out without this option.

Engineers will probably use an existing drivetrain to improve their outputs. If we take a look at other carmaker’s factories, hybrids are usually creating slightly more horsepower, while the major improvements come in the fuel economy sector.

Well, diesel is also a gas-saver. But, increased emissions and demanding standards are not making this type of engine so popular. A 1.6-liter turbodiesel unit is definitely lacking some power, delivering only 140 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque. On the other hand, 40 mpg of highway rating is something even the hybrid powerplant will dream of. It is not impossible to see XT5 with a diesel unit, though.
