FCA Is Preparing Replacement for 2021 Jeep Renegade

FCA unveiled plans to launch the new smallest crossover SUV. The vehicle will settle below the 2021 Jeep Renegade in the hierarchy. The new Mini Jeep is about to debut in 2022. Some experts claim the new model is replacing the Renegade in the US. Other opinions mention the competition against Ford Puma.

Whatsoever, the new 2021 Renegade is not at the focus of designers and engineers. The carmaker is preparing huge changes for its larger siblings. Dodge Durango will start using the body-on-frame platform, leaving more space to Jeep Grand Cherokee. The mid-size SUV could get a hybrid drivetrain, but it won’t feature the third row. Instead, Chrysler Commander or Jeep Grand Wagoneer should take this configuration and the place in the full-size segment.

Still, the latest rumors about the 2022 Mini Jeep promise changes in the compact segment as well. However, we will have to wait at least a year until we see any changes applied to the Renegade.

FCA Is Preparing Replacement for 2021 Jeep Renegade

No Redesign for the 2021 Jeep Renegade, Only Minor Changes

The company updated its smallest crossover in 2019. The sales in Europe jumped, but the major market is the US. There, buyers are not so keen on these mini SUVs. So, carmakers must offer as much as possible to draw the attention of fans. Well, lack of space and power are the major lacks. Still, the solution for at least one problem could be the 2021 Jeep Renegade Turbo. A new engine debuted on the latest crossover and it is still unproven.

The company will definitely update colors for the new 2021 Jeep Renegade. Last year we saw infotainment and safety upgrades, and now it is a turn for a small cosmetic modification. The FCA can start from the color palette. Well, you will have at least ten paintjobs to choose from, but we will see fresh shades. Most of them require additional spending, but particular trim levels are combined with certain colors.

2021 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk

Speaking of trim levels, we will check out what’s new for the top version. Of course, that is the 2021 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk. The crossover is well-known for its off-road capability thanks to this edition. If you are looking for more premium features, check out the Limited model. The Trailhawk is coming with the 4×4 configuration and 17-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires.

Premium cloth covers the upholstery, while leather is available for nearly $2,000. The UConnect 4 is standard. The carmaker is preparing the new version and the fifth generation of the infotainment system. Meanwhile, a 7-inch display sits at the center of the dashboard. Additional upgrades include a larger screen. The new UConnect 5 might grow it to 20 inches.

Two similar configurations are under the hood of the subcompact crossover. A 2.4-liter four-cylinder mill, popular “Tigershark”  is making the Renegade one of the most powerful models in the segment. The powerplant creates 180 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque, while most competitors are sitting under 150 ponies. Mated to a nine-speed automatic gearbox, the system can tow up to 2,000 pounds. You will need a 4×4 for that. The standard configuration for all versions except the Trailhawk includes a 2WD.

A 1.3-liter is a smaller displacement, but thanks to turbochargers, not less capable. With 177 hp and 210 lb-ft, buyers are getting a boost. But, this unit is available at Trailhawk and Limited trims, which means the 2021 Jeep Renegade will cost more with a 1.3-liter mill. With premium fuel, it delivers the best performance, although the normal gasoline can be used without problems.

Replacement is On the Way?

The 2021 Jeep Renegade is not bringing any major change. The latest facelift is still fresh and the crossover could be updated in 2020. But, FCA perhaps has other plans – adding an even smaller unit. Experts doubt there is a market such model, so the 2022 Mini Jeep would split existing buyers of the Renegade. Compared to its larger sibling, the subcompact model is achieving worse sales numbers. It is not a surprise since all mini SUVs have this problem. But, creating competition within the family is nonsense. So, some opinions are even mentioning that Mini Jeep will replace Renegade in 2022.

Prices per Model

The base Renegade is affordable. It costs slightly more than some rivals, for example Nissan Kicks, but it offers a lot more. The Sport edition will remain at $22,500, while the 4×4 version costs no more than $1,500. Upland, Latitude, and Altitude are all around $25,000. Limited edition is the most expensive. The base version costs $26,800 but reaches $28,000 with the 4WD. Meanwhile, this is the standard configuration for the Trailhawk, which is just shy of this price. Some combined elements will create other trims. FCA will update the lineup for the upcoming season before it adds the Mini Jeep as a possible replacement.
