The 2021 Nissan Qashqai will be mostly unchanged for the next season, although it is time for the redesign. The Japanese company is launching the new Rogue for the US market, and its smaller sibling, Rogue Sport will go through the mid-cycle refresh as well. That means the European Qashqai will follow the footsteps of its US cousins. We will see a lot of similarities, but the facelift is not going to happen on the 2021 YM.
In 2017, Qashqai received a new look. Meanwhile, the company developed another drivetrain for the lineup. A 1.3-liter powerplant became very popular. Some sources are claiming Nissan is bringing this engine to North America soon. The crossover is going to offer 3 more configurations with the petrol, and a few more diesel setups based on two engines.
Changes on the 2021 Nissan Qashqai will be minor. However, we expect a larger update in the following seasons. Fans will have to wait to see what the new Rogue is going to look like. 2021 Nissan Qashqai Engines
As said, the new 1.3-liter engine is currently the most popular powerplant. You might ask how this small displacement can deliver enough energy for the crossover. Turbocharged, the petrol unit is capable to burst 160 hp and 200 lb-ft of torque. Converted to European units, that is 117 kW and 270 Nm. Power is sent to front wheels through a DCT gearbox. The crossover will need 10 seconds flat for the 0-60 mph acceleration.
Besides this one, the 2021 Nissan Qashqai will also offer a 1.2-liter unit with 115 horsepower and torque between 120-140 lb-ft. The mill is there right from the start of the new generation in 2013. Again, the same drive type and transmission are coming in this package. If you want more energy, a 1.6-liter gasoline engine is a right choice. It will add 5 more horsepower compared to a 1.3 setup and drop the 0-60 sprint time to 9 seconds. However, it is not the largest engine in the lineup. A 2.0-liter is the biggest, but not the most powerful with 150 hp and 150 lb-ft of twist. Rogue Sport will offer this one in the US.
Diesel Units
Standard 2021 Nissan Qashqai diesel mill for Europe is a 1.6-liter model. Engineers tuned it with three different setups. All of them return 130 hp (95 kW) and 235 lb-ft (320 Nm). An all-wheel drive is optional. The fastest configuration will accelerate 0-60 mph in 10 seconds. Also, you can find the Xtronic transmission instead of the DCT. Finally, the cooperation with Renault brought a new powerplant to Nissan’s portfolio. Famous 1.5-liter dCi is producing 108 hp and 192 lb-ft and uses 4×2 drive only.
2021 Nissan Qashqai Changes, Future Redesign
The current edition of the crossover arrived in 2013. The last update happened on the 2018 YM. Now, it is time for another facelift. Nissan is planning a big attack to the US market. All vehicles will be revisited and refreshed, with the focus on hybrid and electric drivetrains. Well, Qashqai will need the same source of power, since Toyota Rav4 and Honda CR-V are already out in Europe with such setups.

Like its US sibling, the Qashqai is one of the best-selling vehicles in the world. It achieves more than 500,000 sales worldwide since 2017. At the same time, the carmaker introduced Rogue Sport (sales not included in this number). We still don’t know why Nissan is not using popular nameplate in the US. Still, the 172-inch long vehicle is considered as the subcompact crossover there, and compact models are way more popular. Rogue is 10 inches longer, which provides extra space for passengers and cargo. Also, larger engines are attracting more buyers.
The 2021 Nissan Qashqai will face serious competition. The other two leading Japanese carmakers are also very popular. Ford Kuga and Mazda CX-5 are also rivals in most markets. In Europe, there are also popular models by Nissan’s close partners, Mitsubishi and Renault. German carmakers competing in the class are VW and Opel. Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage are growing forces.
