X7 is the newest member of BMW’s SUV lineup. Well, it’s been a couple of years since its first appearance and fans already expect the first dose of update. Still, the company has other priorities, so the 2022 BMW X7 is not going to offer any major update on the body. But, like for this year, the manufacturer can reshuffle options among trim levels and add more features. Plus, the super-luxurious Alpina XB7 is now in production. With the M50i and X7 M versions, it is a pretty wide lineup.
The 2022 BMW X7 is a full-size SUV with three rows of seats. There is no need to worry about comfort since there is a lot of space for all seven passengers. Plus, the premium offer is making the X7 stunning. The latest technologies are implemented in the offer. At higher trim levels you will find captain’s chairs in the middle row. Also, more potent engine configurations are there. A V8 is a mighty performer that will deliver 523 hp for the X7 M. It is still below 600 hp the same engine is being tuned for the smaller X5. BMW is making it up to its fans by delivering the unique package in the SUV lineup – the Alpina XB7.
2022 BMW X7 Full Specs Sheet
The SUV belongs to the full-size segment, but BMW is not jumping in with an eight-cylinder unit. The base model of the X7 is getting power from a 3.0-liter inline-six powertrain good for 335 hp and 330 lb-ft. Well, that is something we are getting from the X5. Buyers are paying a lot of difference only for size. The reason is probably the mild-hybrid system based on the 48V setup. Still, the SUV is not going to offer spectacular outputs that will make it competitive against competition that uses V8s.
The xDrive40i is the least favorite model. But, the 2022 BMW X7 M50i is going to cost a lot more. Instead of an I6, you will get a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 ready to burst 523 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. Now it is something enthusiasts want to see from the large SUV. The vehicle sprints to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds, which is a stunning result having in mind its size and weight. On the other hand, max speed is limited to 130 mph. The exhaust system is pretty important. The special M package will add parts that will improve the flow and make the X7 roar.
What is Alpina XB7?
We already saw this badge in other classes, but this is the debut for the Alpina and SUVs. The larges model in the lineup is offering the package centered around a 4.4-liter high-output engine. With this package is making the 2022 BMW X7 deliver 612 hp. The 0-60 sprint time drops to 4 sec flat and max speed is increased. The bad thing is the price tag. The 2022 BMW Alpina XB7 is a similar performance package you can find with the Competition version of the X6 M.
Besides the engine, the unique model adds air suspension and sports exhaust. Driver Assist Professional is included, as well as 21-inch wheels set. Like for all other versions, an all-wheel drive is used.

Packages
The xDrive40i is the base trim. We already mentioned an I6 engine. Besides that, designers packed the entry-level model with a panoramic sunroof, roof rails, power tailgate and Active Driving Assistance. Wireless charging is usually an optional feature, but not for the X7, which also adds a couple of USB ports for the xDrive40i.
The 2022 BMW X7 M50i is making things serious with a V8 engine and 523 horsepower. The M model adds special air suspension, differential, and brakes. The exterior appearance gains aggressiveness thanks to 22-inch wheels. Inside, upscale leather is used, and the highlight of the multimedia system is 16-speaker audio by Harman Kardon.
2022 BMW X7 Prices, Competition
The future of the full-size SUV will bring cosmetic updates and new drivetrains. Until this happens, the prices of the 2022 BMW X7 should stay put. Well, paying $75,000 for the full-size luxury SUV is not too much. But, you are expecting to get a V8. So, getting power from a six-cylinder unit makes the entry-level version pretty expensive. The M50i will fix the issue, but the price gets into six-digit realms. Still, 523 hp is above all US and Japanese premium SUVs. At this level you will find only a few other vehicles, such as Mercedes GLS and Land Rover Range Rover. With upgrades, the M model can reach $125,000. The most luxurious offer, the 2022 BMW Alpina XB7, is going to start at $145,000. Well, this is another dimension of the industry where you can find Mercedes G-Class, Bentley Bentayga, Aston Martin DBX…
