The 2024 Acura RDX will carry over styling and packages from its predecessor. The compact crossover went through a mid-cycle update in 2022 and the next-gen won’t appear before 2025. Nevertheless, there are a few big things we could see on the 2024 YM.
First, the company needs to improve gas mileage. The best way to do it is to add a hybrid option. A larger MDX is available with a hybrid unit, while the non-premium Honda CR-V can do 40+ mpg. The current turbocharged four-pot plant is pretty potent and delivers nice outputs. But, it is also very thirsty compared to the competition.
Engineers could also add a performance-oriented 2024 Acura RDX Type S package. This iconic badge is again part of the lineup after debuts on the TLX sedan and MDX SUV. The NSX is sport coupe is a high-end car with the price tag of $160,000 and 520 horsepower.
New For 2024 Acura RDX
While we are waiting for news about new packages, the rest of the lineup stays the same. The Base edition will have a price tag of around $40,000. The company is not offering classic trim levels, but optional packages instead. The compact crossover uses big 19-inch wheels and a panoramic sunroof is there for the base configuration. Other highlights are keyless entry, dual-zone climate controls, heated front seats, and a 10-inch touchscreen.
Upgrades and Accessories
The first bundle you will check out is Technology. Navigation is added. A 12-speaker system replaces the entry-level sound with 9 speakers. Interior lighting makes everything more luxurious, and leather seats the ride more comfortable. Parking sensors are on both ends of the crossover.
The 2024 Acura RDX A-Spec is upgrading the Technology package with larger wheels, fog lights, ventilated seats, and 16-speaker audio. Also, there are a few exterior parts that will make the vehicle look sportier. Those features are exclusive for the A-Spec package.
The RDX Advance comes with top of the line options. Adaptive suspension makes a ride very smooth. Remote ignition is another add-on. Inside, wooden details are the highlight. The front seats are ventilated and the steering wheel heated. The HUD is also there. The audio system now features a total of 16 speakers.
Last year, the company introduced the PMC Edition for the small SUV. We’ll see if this package is coming back for the 2024 season.
2024 Acura RDX Type S
Old and legendary package is back. We expected the Type R in the Honda lineup, but it is yet to happen. Meanwhile, the squad of performance Acura model is going to be expanded. The small crossover is ready.
However, we still don’t know what will be under the hood of the 2024 Acura RDX. A high-output engine is needed. But, even the MDX didn’t go too far with 355 horsepower. The NSX is the most powerful Type S in the lineup with 520 hp. The base version is good for 272 hp. So, the RDX Type S could settle somewhere around 350 hp. But, a V6 engine the MDX is using is too big for the small crossover.
2024 Acura RDX Hybrid
This dead-end makes us revisit all the options. So, could the 2024 Acura RDX hybrid be the Type S at the same time? Not impossible. Honda is developing the PHEV system, it is not a secret. Fans expect to see it in the new Pilot. But, the small luxury crossover could spoil the party. With a boost of electric batteries, the RDX can improve the outputs and also its biggest issue – poor gas mileage. Combined, a regular turbo-four can do 24 mpg. From the vehicle of its size, we expect more.
Specs and Fuel Economy
Under the bonnet of the 2024 Acura RDX stays a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine with 272 hp. A ten-speed automatic transmission is a power distributor that shifts it to the front wheels by default. The SH-AWD is one of the best upgrades you can make. Like said, the fuel economy is one of the biggest downsides of the luxury crossover. It returns 22/28 mpg. A hybrid will push it closer to 30 mpg combined. The engine also produces 280 pound-feet of torque and the max towing capacity is 1,500 lbs. But, no one expects from a small luxury crossover to haul big cargo.
2024 Acura RDX Price and Release Date
Since there are no big updates on the 2024 Acura RDX, the launching date is coming quietly. Expect to see the crossover late in 2023. By then, we will know more about the options the company is adding and the Type S specifications. The price is higher, that is for sure. SH AWD will cost below $2,500. Type S is the high-end model with a price tag above $60,000. A price of an RDX hybrid depends on the type of system engineers are planning for this crossover.
