The plug-in hybrid version of the compact crossover is already available in some markets. The 2024 Jeep Compass 4xe should debut in the US. After that, the all-electric vehicle is coming. Since the 4xe is the badge brought by Wrangler, the EV will probably also use the Magneto nameplate.
Meanwhile, this could mark the end of the current, second generation of the Compass. It debuted in 2018. A six-year span is not too small for a compact crossover. Changes are more frequent nowadays and Jeep wants to stay in touch with the competition.
The 2024 Jeep Compass is a compact crossover positioned under Cherokee. Further changes in the lineup will include another entry-level subcompact model, probably called Baby Jeep. The cure for the poor outputs and sluggish acceleration might be a hybrid engine. Plus, it would launch Compass to the top tier of compact crossovers for fuel economy.
2024 Jeep Compass Specs
We might see changes under the hood of the new Compass. A 2.4-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine can produce 177 hp and return 22/31 mpg. Both outputs are below the class average, which makes the crossover less competitive. It is obvious that some changes should move the 2024 Jeep Compass from the standpoint.
A smaller block enhanced by turbochargers might be a solution. That kind of configuration can improve both power and gas mileage. We assume that 2.0-liter or even 1.5-liter mills are in the mix for the base of the turbo setup. But, FCA engineers have the final word.
2024 Jeep Compass 4xe Hybrid
The lack of a hybrid unit is a bigger problem. The entire industry is moving towards the electric world, and Jeep is way behind the competition. The arrival of the Wrangler 4xe is a new sign, and now there are a few more models to wear the same badge.
The 4xe indicates the plug-in hybrid setup. The 2024 Compass definitely needs one to be able to compete with Toyota Rav4 and Ford Escape. Still, a 2.0-liter petrol unit in a combination with electric motors can deliver 375 hp for the Wrangler SUV. For its smaller sibling, the PHEV system might be downtuned to about 300 ponies. That can definitely make the 2024 Jeep Compass 4xe more attractive. Plus, less power requires less fuel. The gas mileage would be over 40 mpg and the electric range could reach 30 miles.
Wide Lineup of Trim Levels and Packages
Like every other Jeep, the Compass is going to offer a wide range of options. Currently, there are eight trim levels. But, we can’t say how many of them will be available for the 2024 Jeep Compass, since FCA always adds a special edition or two, unique colors, and a few other options. The new Uconnect infotainment is impressive. However, the small crossover is going to offer the best of it at high trim levels. The good thing about the Compass was that upgrading it is not too expensive. The difference between entry and top trim level was around $10,000.
The Sport should be the base offer again. It is a standard entry-level version for most Jeeps. The features list is not impressive, but it is a good started pack. Roof rails, 16-inch wheels, 8.4-inch screen and smartphone mirroring services are available. Plus, satellite radio is standard. The Latitude is a good upgrade, having in mind it costs only $1,000 above the Sport. Larger wheels, simulated leather and fog lights are the highlights of this model. Latitude Lux pushes the offer towards the premium segment, with leather seats, 10-inch screen, and 18-inch wheels.
Limited edition also brings some of cool upgrades, such as parking sensors, windshield de-icer, and dual-zone climate. The High Altitude is the most expensive configuration, with advanced accessories included. But, we won’t call it the best. The 2024 Jeep Compass Trailhawk will remain the most favorite package. It is tuned for off-road adventures. A four-wheel drive is standard, as well as the hill assist, tow package, raised suspension, and skid plates.
2024 Jeep Compass Pricing and Release Date
The standard lineup for the 2024 YM will be out late in 2023. However, all eyes are on the plug-in hybrid setup. The unveiling of the 2024 Jeep Compass 4xe will determine next moves. Still, the base price depends on the level of change. The MSRP will be around $30,000 for sure. All vehicles are becoming more expensive, so, it is not strange to see Compass breaching the $30k mark.
High-end versions sit above $40,000. Well, some other companies value premium variants of their compact crossovers much higher.
