The 2021 Chevy Traverse is not going to launch the first update of its second generation. The entire focus is on the full-size segment where GM is launching a completely new fleet. Unchanged Traverse will still be a good option as a three-row SUV, but less expensive than Tahoe or Suburban. On the other hand, if you want to wait for a new version, it will probably debut as 2022 YM.
The refresh of the upcoming SUV will be modest. We could see new colors and possible changes in the Redline edition. Of course, there are even more updates. According to sources, the new Tahoe will get the High Country edition. The 2021 Chevy Traverse is already one of the rare models offering the most exclusive package. The interior will suffer the most updates, though. The reshuffling of options between trim levels and new technologies are certain. The price will stay put and the release date will be closer to the end of this year.
2021 Chevy Traverse Specs
The US carmaker dropped a turbocharged four-cylinder engine from the lineup. Now, the 2021 Chevy Traverse sticks to a single powerplant. It is a reliable 3.6-liter V6 drivetrain. The SUV is getting more power than its rivals. With 310 hp, it is one of the most potent vehicles in the segment. Toyota Highlander generates 290 hp, Honda Pilot 280, and Ford Explorer 295 ponies. Torque is 265 hp at 2,800 rpm. A nine-speed automatic transmission is still a power router. The GM will eventually bring the new 10-pace gearbox for its mid-size model. The front-wheel drive system consumes 21 mpg combined, while the all-wheel drive drops the rate by 1 mpg. The towing capacity of the SUV is 5,000 pounds.
Fans of the mid-size SUVs noticed there are more hybrids in the market nowadays. For a few years, the only such model was Toyota Highlander. Now, we can find Ford Explorer, Honda Pilot, Acura MDX… It seems like GM is not paying enough attention to this segment. The carmaker is not making a smaller Trax and Equinox hybrids. Well, the future of the automotive industry is green, and in a few years, companies will create electric drivetrains only. Meanwhile, the race is on in the hybrid class and General Motors is not involved yet.
Interior Refresh and Cargo Space
The SUV is offering seven different packages to start your build. The L trim is the entry model and it comes with 18-inch wheels, automatic headlights, tri-zone climate control, and a 7-inch touchscreen display. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. The base model offers eight seats, but you cannot select an AWD with it. To do so, buyers will need to upgrade the offer with the LS bundle, which doesn’t include too many extra features. But, additional packages, such as Blackout are becoming notable addition.
The LT model comes in two variants – cloth and leather. As you can guess, the difference is in the upholstery material. But, the more exclusive package will also make the information display larger, and the seats are getting a power-adjusting system.
The RS version now comes with a V6. The GM is not offering a turbo-four unit anymore. Still, 20-inch wheels, navigation, Bose audio, and the 360-degree camera will be enough for most demanding buyers. Premier is making the appearance even more luxurious wit ha lot of chrome details. A hands-free power liftgate is standard, as well as a wireless charger and ventilated front seats.
2021 Chevy Traverse High Country and Redline Edition
The most exclusive package in the lineup will be the 2021 Chevy Traverse High Country. Compared to the rest of the lineup, it comes with unique features, such as trailering equipment with the hitch guidance system. Heavy-duty engine cooling is part of that package. The third row is coming with a power-folding feature and sunroof is one of the coolest you can find in the market. Safety is at the highest level with emergency braking and adaptive cruise control.
The 2021 Chevy Traverse Redline is the special package available with the Premier model. The bundle includes black door handles, a dual-panel sunroof (High Country is also offering this system), and trailering assistance. Of course, there are a lot of Redline badges around and inside the SUV.
2021 Chevy Traverse Colors and Prices
A base model is not offering too many color schemes. But, climbing up the trim level ladder, you will find up to eight paintjobs for both LT versions and the Premier package. These are Mosaic Black, Black Cherry, Graphite, Satin Steel, Silver Ice (all metallic paints), Summit White, and a couple of special colors – Tricoat Iridescent Pearl and Tincoat Cajun Red.
The base MSRP for the 2021 Traverse remains $31,000. LS is adding $3,000 and LT with leather hits $40k. For $2,000 you can add an all-wheel drive. Premier and High Country versions are the premium offer with the price over $50,000. Redline package costs $1,850 as an optional upgrade for Premier trim.
