2022 VW Tiguan Coupe Rumors and Facts

Already in 2019, the first information appeared about the new Tiguan. Fans didn’t waste time and we now have first renders. Meanwhile, the German carmaker did not speak about the crossover, but an interesting story leaked. The 2022 VW Tiguan Coupe will be the highlight of the third generation.

The second generation Tiguan has been released not so long ago – in 2017. However, the company is are already talking about the next-gen model. A completely new design is a hot topic. The current crossover has a very conservative appearance with a round shape. Volkswagen wants to make the future generation more aggressive and eye-catching. The coupe version will be something really interesting.

Well, there are still no spy photos of the new model. So, we can only focus on the styling of concept cars by this carmaker. In the past few years, we saw several prototypes. Fans from Kolesa website made a first render taking these ideas.

2022 VW Tiguan Coupe Styling

The front part will probably be made in the style we already know with a large grille. There shouldn’t be big surprises. On the other hand, it is expected the next Tiguan will receive a different body shape due to the changed roof line. That is the 2022 VW Tiguan Coupe. The vehicle will be slightly longer, so the room for passengers and the cargo space should not suffer. Also, the roof seems a bit higher on render images.

Fans have an interesting idea. The rear overhang is slightly enlarged to provide more cargo space. The crossover received a curved side skirts, which highlights the wheel arches and makes the appearance more original. At the back, we notice completely new lights made in the latest fashion as a single element.

New Platform, Lighter Body, Better Gas Mileage

The next-generation Tiguan can be made on the upgraded MQB architecture. Engines, most of them, will be borrowed from the new Volkswagen Golf. Some of these will be available for the 2022 VW Tiguan Coupe as well. Surely, there will be hybrid variants in the game thanks to the MQB platform. The most powerful version will be Tiguan R, but it is still questionable if the Coupe version is getting the R badge and 300 hp rated engine.

2022 VW Tiguan Coupe Specs

US and European buyers are going to see the 2022 VW Tiguan Coupe with different drivetrains like it is the case with the standard crossover. At this moment, the only powerplant available for North America is a 2.0-liter TSI. The Turbo-four unit is producing 185 hp and 220 lb-ft of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission sends power to front wheels. This configuration returns 29 mpg. The new generation will be lighter, and a petrol engine will be able to make more than 30 mpg on highways. Also, the coupe will be more aerodynamic. We expect all-wheel drive, popular 4Motion as optional.

Furthermore, a hybrid configuration is certain. Volkswagen needs it to stay in the game. Many other compact crossovers are using this kind of a drivetrain as optional. Soon, hybrids and EVs will take over the market. The German carmaker already has a few electric concepts which will enter the production soon.

In Europe, the crossover uses a 1.4 and 1.5 liter displacements, as well as a diesel unit. Outputs are between 125 and 150 hp. Diesel is not likely to return, even for Europe and Asia. Again, the hybrid will take its place.

Competition

We can find a few crossovers with coupe styling. However, the 2022 VW Tiguan Coupe will be the first non-luxury model. We could soon see the Hyundai Tucson with such configuration, and even the convertible roof. Porsche Macan is probably the first vehicle when mentioning compact crossover with such styling. Plus, there is the new BMW X4 to compete against the Mercedes GLC Coupe.

2022 VW Tiguan Coupe Release Date

The new generation of the compact crossover is due for 2022. The company will introduce a new vehicle late in 2021. All other versions will arrive in a few months. One of them is the 2022 VW Tiguan Coupe. The crossover is going to be the first update. It is still early to know the precise price, but we can assume the new version will increase the MSRP. For now, the base version is just under $26,000 in the United States. You can add AWD, and features through SEL and R-Line package to reach $40,000. If the Tiguan R appears, its starting price will be closer to $50,000 and will go up to the premium waters with additional equipment.
